Help Can't delete my password

I'm having great difficulty deleting my password off my phone, it's a real pain having to type it in all the time when I want to use my phone quickly, but when I go to lock screen options and type in the password like people tell me all of the other options are greyed out - what I want to press is 'none' but, like I said, it's greyed out and won't let me press it. I would appreciate any help you might be able to give me?
 
I read that clearing credentials under security would restore them. Some certain credential needed added security for it to be installed on your phone, foxfi/pda.net or exchange with 365 are examples.

Not sure the down side of clearing the phone credentials/CA certificates are though.
 
Thanks for the reply. When I went to clear credentials the box was greyed out which meant couldn't click on it then tried to remove VPNs, not knowing what they are, but said no VPN detected. I am a bit of a loss here so appreciate any help I might get?
 
factory reset is a last option
when you say lock screen options are you refering to settings/security/screen security?
