My computer won't detect my phone while in charge only mode with usb debugging activated which is how the directions were stated in tutorial. This is only my second phone ever attempting to root, first was a samsung admire, the htc wildfire s is a little bit more complicated than that was. Please help. I want to delete alot of my bloatware.

Hi,
Have you installed Android SDK on your PC...?
then there might be problem with your USB. Try changing another USB slot on PC....

Also have you installed HTC drivers ? If not, download and install Htc Sync.

yes android sdk and htc tools are installed on my pc.. when connecting i should be in "charge only" with usb debugging enabled? and when doing that i should be able to find my phone as a storage space on my computer correct?

Still having problems with finding my phone.. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I went back through and installed the sdk tools following the directions via the link on rooting the wildfire s s-on guide and am stuck at 14 on the windows install guide. I followed all the directions and still cannot run adb. Is my phone supposed to be in charge only mode at this time. Ive read the directions multiple times now and still cannot seem to find my phone.

I've had this problem on a laptop. Then I switched to another laptop and it worked perfectly fine. So I do think it is some driver problem.
Try uninstalling your HTC drivers and re-installing them.

Well shouldn't you NOT be in CHARGE ONLY mode? Because that tends to mean you are only charging and not in data transfer mode
