Help Can't firmware update via Kies???

My friend got her S2 from orange direct and i plugged her simmering on my pc with kies and it said exactly this! She is still on gb yet I've been on ICS for months!

Id like to get her on ICS but was wary of installing an un branded version like mine in case it would brick the device! Afaik she has orange bloatware and doesn't have a letter after the devices name (GTI9100)

I wanna update my GT-I9100 Android 2.3.6 to 4.0 or above, but I can't find my device firmware..

GT-I9100
PDA: I9100ZSKI3
Phone: I9100XXKI3
CSC:T989UVKID

Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7 - I91002KKI3 -CL603802SE.INFRA@SEP-78#2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD. ZSKI3.F2A238.2JIA68
Baseband Version: I9100XXKI3

Please help me... plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

How odd!

Your firmware is showing as, I believe, Chinese, for the GT-i9100

However, your CSC code is showing as the US variant, T989, Hercules phone.

This could explain you not being able to update.

Could you check the white sticker underneath your battery and see what Model no: it shows.

I have a second hand GT-I9100 phone @ Vodafone Ireland

Android Version GingerBread 2.3.4
Baseband version I9100XXKH3
Kernell 2.6.35.7-I9100XXKH3 - CL479037
Build GINGERBREAD.XXKH3

PDA I9100XXKH3
Phone I9100XXKH3
CSC I9100XAKH3
Build Info: 12 August KST2011

White sticker:
Model GT-I9100
SSN: -I9100GSMH
FCC ID A3LGTI9100

For some reasons, it would not accept any calls - in fact when called it won't even dial or ring in the callers phone, but cut off immediately.

I have done a Factory Restore but no changes.

Can't do a firmware upgrade via Kies neither is the option for Software Update.

I would like to upgrade to Android Version 4.0.4 or higher.

Thank you.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums urdlef! :)

In light of the information you have given, I think the first course of action for you would be to check that your handset's IMEI number is not blacklisted.

You can obtain your IMEI no: by entering *#06# into the dial pad.

If a phone has an unpaid contract or has been stolen the IMEI number can be blocked thus rendering it inoperable.

There are a number of sites that can check for you. This is one recommended by eBay, Check MEND.

Hi,

I have the IMEI number and performed a CheckMEND:

Checks Performed Explanation

Ever blocked
CheckMEND has a record of this item having been blocked by a GSM cell phone network

Currently blocked
CheckMEND has a record that this item is currently blocked by one or more GSM cell phone networks

The problem is that we only presume that is blocked by Vodafone, but it worked fine for the first week after buying it.

Will check with Vodafone again to see what they have to say.
Will revert with info.

I got it sorted out simple as 123.

It took out the sim card and inserted into a different handset, turned it on, I called the number on the sim card, and worked ok.

Switched back the sim card into the Samsung Galaxy S2 handset, turned it on, and called the number on the sim card, and worked ok.

No idea what caused the problem, but works fine now.

Thank you for your help anyway.

Unfortunately after 4 hours it is blocked again.

Can't make or receive calls, can only receive text messages.

Any ideas?

Unfortunately, I had a feeling that we might be hearing from you again after your previous post, #31.

It would appear that your phone is indeed blacklisted as per the Check Mend report. Placing your sim in another phone, it would appear, was only a temporary respite once it was inserted into your phone again.

Did you actually take up the matter directly with Vodafone and inform them that your phone was blocked on multiple carriers?

Have you tried any other carriers sim cards in your phone? You may have to leave them in or reboot your phone to make sure that another sim does not just offer another temporary respite again.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums iLoveTed! :)

Your ability to update to Jelly Bean depends on your CSC code, see post #1.1 of the Jelly Bean update - Dummies Guide, and whether JB has been released for your CSC code. some people who think that they are on T-Mobile formware are in fact on other CSC codes. AFAIK, to-date, there has been no update for either T-Mobile UK or Orange UK to JB, as per post #2 of the aforementioned guide, unless this has happened in the last few hours.

Hi,

I have the same problem and have read the 'Jelly Bean update - Dummies Guide' but cannot figure out where the problem lies.

When using Kies I get this message: 'Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies'

My CSC is I9100FTMKE2 (ie France) which should be fine according to post #2.
Is there an easy way around this?

Context (not sure if this helps): phone bought from Orange France and unlocked by them a few months ago. I am now using it in the UK with Orange UK.

Other info:
Android version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: I9100BVKE2
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100BVKE2-CL195878 root@DELL101 #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.BVKE2
Current firmware version: PDA:KE2 / PHONE:KE2 / CSC:KE2 (FTM)

Thanks for the help!

Hello and welcome to Android Forums spet2904! :)

Wow! That is old firmware! I just checked the records for firmwares for CSC code FTM and they go back to October 2011 with a Gingerbread release, Android 2.3.5, of i9100BVKJ4. So your firmware pre-dates even that!

There have been 7 firmware updates on FTM since yours. I am guessing that the reason that you have not received them is for one of the reasons given in #1.5 of the Jelly Bean update - Dummies Guide. Possibly the phone was re-flashed prior to your receiving it.

You can either take your phone to a Samsung Service Point and explain your situation and see if they will flash the latest Jelly Bean firmware for you or you can flash it yourself by following the instructions in #1.7 of the guide. Be advised that there is a possibility, depending on how your phone was originally unlocked, that upgrading the firmware could re-lock it.

Since your phone is now either out of, or at the end of, its warranty period, you could flash the Orange UK firmware to it for ICS. JB has not yet been released for Orange UK.

Thanks for the quick response ironass!

I'm not sure whether Android 2.3.3 has always been on (I wasn't using the phone before this month) or whether it reverted back to that when Orange unlocked it and is now stuck like that.

I will probably try to go to a Samsung Service Point and see what they can do there as I only have access to Mac OS so I cannot get Odin unfortunately.

Unlocking the phone would not change the firmware.
