Root Can't flash Rzrecovery..

Hey, I've had a droid eris rooted for awhile now, and I recently got a droid 1 from a friend. I was able to root the phone, but I'm having trouble flashing Rzrecovery.. I'm really used to the way things are done on the eris so I feel a little out of place with the droid. I tried flashing Rzrecovery from sprecovery and it wouldn't work.. i never used rom manager before but I figured maybe I could flash it with that; however, that didn't work either. I know rom manager won't work with Rzrecovery but even when I entered recovery from quick boot it still went to the stock recovery. It's like everytime I flash Rzrecovery it resets the recovery to stock.. any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.. :D

No, You are not going crazy. If you have the stock ROM from Verizon on your phone, everytime you reboot it will re-flash the stock recovery. It is just the way it is. Your options are either modify the proper files to prevent it or flash your recovery, make a backup, and then flash a custom ROM.

Custom ROM developers have disabled the files that re-flash the stock recovery. I hope this has helped you. Let us know if you need anything else.

I have never used Rzrecovery since Clockwork Recovery has always worked fine for me though I have heard good things about RzRecovery.

Why bother? Just use Rom Manager and CWRecovery. There's both good and bad I've heard and experienced with RZRecovery. Also, as skilaufen reports, getting a custom recovery to 'stick' on a stock rooted ROM is tough, I have a guide at my site for manually installing a custom recovery that has the command that helps.

If you're stuck on wanting to try RZRecovery and using SPRecovery to flash it, then this should work for you. I haven't used SPRecovery in forever, so bear with some of these instructions. I know you've renamed the RZR file to "update.zip". Boot into SPRecovery and select allow update.zip install, then select install update.zip depreciated. Then manually power off your phone and manually power it back up into recovery. It _should_ boot into RZRecovery, and if so, go ahead and select install .zip from sdcard and select (yes again) the update.zip file. Then (again bear with me) find within RZRecovery (maybe in the advanced menu) the option to remove the FRS or something like that, then go back and using RZRecovery use the reboot into recovery command and it _should_ stick. You can test it of course the usual way.

Now since I was vague on some of the knowledge of the exact wording of the commands/prompt if you have trouble post back and when I check tomorrow or later tonight, I'll go through and walk the steps while doing it on my phone.

good luck

I did all that, but there was no option to remove FRS or anything similar. The only thing that is an option to disable are the OTA updates. I hit that just for shits and giggles, but I'm not sure if it stuck. I didn't bother to check because there was no option with FRS.. is there a way to manually disable it with a terminal emulator? Or anything like that?

Ahh, as I said, it's been a while. I just checked and that option is missing from RZRecovery. So on to the next, yes. There are some commands to do it, did you look for the guide at my site? It's called "installing custom recovery manually" in the advanced guides section. Site linked in my sig.

good luck

Thank you very much for your help. I checked out your site for the instructions; however, I just ended up installing bugless beast.. but now I'm having trouble finding a kernel that will work well with my phone.. i tried chevys 1.0g lowu and it didn't go over so well.. now I'm going to try slayhers because one of his kernels was already on the rom.. i just don't know which one to pick.. any suggestions?
