I went to Amazon to get some droid apps. I signed in, found the apps I wanted, added them to my wish list but could do nothing further. Do I need to first download an amazon app before I can download more? My droid is made and sold in China. Is it possible that something is interefereing with it?

Yes you will need the Amazon Appstore app from Amazon. But the good news is that once you have that installed, you will have access to the free amazon app of the day.
Also, to install the Amazon Appstore you will first need to go to Security and allow "unknown sources". And you will need to leave that on (or turn it on) when downloading from the Amazon appstore.
