Help can't get auto-text-msg alerts on Optimus??

Why can't I get text-message alerts on my Optimus? Since I see similar threads, let me clarify: I'm talking about those automatically generated text-alert messages from the newspaper or whoever. When there's breaking news, I get a TEXT MESSAGE from the newspaper: "This major news story happened." Those ones. Where I enter my cell phone from a web site and I reply to text message to start the auto-generated messages. Why won't I get those messages? I thought these were supposed to be "smart"-phones: is there any way to get text-message alerts on a pre-paid Virgin Mobile cell phone? Any way whatsoever?

Again, these aren't e-mail alerts, and I'm not talking about text-message alerts about *individuals* sending me texts, but rather, this specifically pertains to *news/sports organizations* that auto-generate text messages you subscribe to. Is there any way to "force" or "fix" the Optimus V so I can receive these text messages?

I'm not sure what the issue is you're having, other than perhaps the SMS sender you're trying to connect with doesn't include Virgin Mobile.

I just signed up for the Washington Post's SMS News Alerts. It works for me on my V. I texted NEWS to 98999 to sign up, and got an immediate reply.

I did have to have Virgin re-provision my MMS after I got the phone to get that working, but my normal SMS has been working since day one.
