Help Can't get GPS fix

Android Version: 2.1
Network: nTelos
Taskiller Used?: none
[Optional]Are You rooted & which Rom: no
Issue:

I got an HTC Desire a couple months ago and had a Hero before that. I was always using Google Maps and Navigation on the Hero and now my way around an Android phone. Recently while trying to use Google Maps and Navigation on the Desire I realized that it wasn't working. Started with the basics making sure all the settings were right and features turned on. Tried battery pulls and reinstalling google maps. Downloaded GPS Test and ran that... depending on where I am the app will see 5 to 8 satellites but will never lock on and use them no matter how long I let it sit (outside with clear view of sky). I have tried on mobile internet and wifi. I pulled my Hero back out and downloaded GPS Test just to see how fast it got locked on and it was locked before the GPS Test app screen even loaded. Seems to me that there is something wrong with the GPS itself in my Desire. Any suggestions?

5 to 8 doesn't seem like much. I'm indoors now, and getting 8. Outdoors, I'd expect to get 12-14.
GPS sensor faulty?

Basically, you are doing all the basic requirements for GPS fix - go in outside under open sky, GPS ON, mobile data ON, launch GPS test, wait for fix about 10m.
If you have tried a few times and still nothing, then it is worth to take it to a service point.
