Root Can't get optimus to enter airplane mode/no wifi

I just recently bought a used rooted lg optimus slider off of ebay. When I try to go into airplane mode, or just shut off wifi it wont let me. The wifi button unchecks for a second then rechecks itself and continues to search for a wifi source. Same thing with the airplane mode button it just checks it then unchecks it and goes back to searching. I only get like 5 hours outta the phone, and that is with the phone on standby for most of the day.

Looks like you need to just flash/install another ROM. The previous owner might not have wiped and formatted everything necessary before flashing the ROM, which left some residual data behind to corrupt the ROM. Some ROM's have issues with the WiFi radios.
Check and see if there is a nandroid. You can do this two ways 1st By going to the sd card and looking for a folder called clockworkmod, then open it up and find the folder that is labeled backup, then look in there to see if you see a folder with a name or datestamp. 2nd. Go to the recovery menu and look in the backup and restore section. Look in the restore option and see if there is a name or dates stamp.

Until you get another ROM installed, if there is a nandroid to restore, try that. First make a backup of the ROM that is currently installed by going to the backup and restore section and selecting the backup option.
Then wipe and format everything necessary for a new ROM install for your phone. Go back and select to restore the nandroid. Once the nandroid installs correctly you can choose to delete the backup you made by going to the sd card and deleting just the folder with the new datestamp on it that you made.

its android version 2.3.4
there was no sd card with the phone when I got it
it only had the internal memory thats it
I bought an sd card for it a few days ago
how would i look to see whats on the internal memory?
And would I be able to install the update or no?
I used to like the led blink to notify me if i have a msg
but now that it says i need to update it blinks all the time.

Hmmm. You might have a rouge app that's trying to call home way to much.

Download Connection Tracker and AirPush Detector and see if any app is going crazy calling home and causing a "wake lock".

over the past week using the phone ive noticed quite a few more quirks with the OS. It locked up on me the other day while i was making a call. The OS was completely unresponsive to anything. It just stayed on the call and I couldnt hang up or shut the phone off. I ended up pulling the battery to get it to shut off, and after i put it back in the phone was really slow. And I now have an extended battery for it, and even with that I only get about 7-8 hours of battery life on standby most of the time with about 1-1.5 of actual use. this thing is really starting to piss me off.

Go to settings>about phone and tell me what you see under Android Version, Kernel version, and Build number.

Download the Superuser app from the market.
Then Download a terminal emulator from the market, open it up and type in this: su
Then hit the enter key(it's the bottom right key). If you get a $ your not rooted. If you get a # your rooted. Let me know if you are or are not rooted.

With Phone turned off, press and hold the Volume down button then the power button (both at the same time). Hold them down until you see your recovery menu. If it's the stock recovery you will have 4-5 options. If it's a custom recovery you will have 8-9 options. Let me know which one you have.

android version 2.3.4
kernel version 2.6.35.7+
build number GRj22

it had super user on it already when i got the phone
I downloaded terminal emulator and it does give me the # when i type su

When i go into recovery mode it gives me 4 options. They are reboot, update, factory format, and partition.

I downloaded airpush and connection tracker. Your right about the phone being in wake lock. I checked the battery history after I got outta work and its said the phone had been screen off yet awake for 7 hours. But when I use airpush it only lists one program swat sniper game i have but ive never even used it. And connection tracker only lists itself 3 times and a google process.

I also tried this morning to shut off active sync for my fb, and it does the. Itsame thing as wifi. It stays unchecked for like a min or two but when I go back in its back on, same goes for the gps tracking. Its really pissin me off, I only get like 7 hours of batt life from an extended battery.

How do I get to the backup menu?
My phone has shut itself off a few times now
and the only way I can get it to turn back on
Is by pulling the battery.
I'm really getting sick of it and I wanna fix it.

i would really really appreciate some help getting a new fresh rom on my phone.
How do I back up my stuff, and how do I go about putting a new rom on.
And how would I find out which one I have on there now?

Ok so over the past week the phone has gotten much worse with the glitching/freezing. So I read the how-to on the root/custom restore. I think mine only has the stock restore because the original owner took the sd card. So tonight I installed a custom recovery on it and made a nandroid backup. What cache and/or data do I have to wipe to install the mobster rom? And how do I go about doing it?
