Can you give a little more information...
Does it appear to turn on but your computer wont connect?
Does it give you an error when you try to activate it?
Which app are you using to tether?
I've always wanted to check out wireless tethering also but never tried. I have Wireless Tether for Root App and my laptop is running Win 7. How do I set it up in Win 7 to recongize the wireless tether?

There's nothing to set up. Your laptop will detect the wireless hotspot from your phone just like it would any wifi signal.

Ok so the laptop doesn't detect a wireless network. Wireless network is turned on and I tried bluetooth and that doesn't detect.
It's not the computer because I use a wireless network sometimes. I'm using GVB 1.2 but I tried it some time ago with another rom and it didn't work then either so I didn't bother with it then.
Let me recant that. I'm such a dumdass sometimes.

and it works great with my macbook and ipad 2.

I tried this, but my laptop is not able to use the internet. It connect to the phone fine though.
