Help Can't go "back" in browser to a google search results page

I have 2 Samsung Mesmerizes and they both do this. I have tried all the suggestions in previous posts (not once but several times) and I still return all the way back to the original search page. My phones were working fine until we had the new software update.

I think I found a solution. Not sure how it is connected but this appears to be working for me. On the Google search home page there is a link to settings (not the browser settings you get to by pushing the menu button at the bottom, but the seach settings link that is only available on the actual search home page.) When you click this settings link it brings up a list of search settings and one of them is called "google instant"

Check the box that says "do not use google instant" and save.

That's it. Fixed it for me.

Thank you Fireplug, this fixed it on my Atrix.

I realize the majority of this thread is pretty old, but since it's not entirely dead I thought I'd share my experience with this bug. I've experienced this bug on my Asus Transformer 300 and a while ago on one of my other devices, though I can't remember which one: either my HTC EVO or my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Between this and many, many other issues I've had/am having with android, I'm at the point that I've decided the only solution is to hope Windows 8 tablets can succeed where android has failed.

Well, I just tried it again now that I am on an ICS leak - and I can go back to search list. :D

Not sure if this was brought up, I'm not reading the entire thread....

Get in the habit of long pressing the link on the google search results you want to browse, you will then be given the option to open in a new tab whilst your google search remains in a previous window or tab. I have not had this issue with the stock browser, just with dolphin. :)

Your issue is a workaround for the other issue, b/c you're using multiple windows, but the OP is in an issue for using a single window.

I was having the same issue, and changing the settings on google didn't fix it nor did unchecking the option under dolphin setting_SEARCH ENGINE_ENABLE SEARCH SUGGESTIONS.

I did find a solution that worked for me. I always browse using the desktop agent because I don't like browsing sites in mobile view. I found it if I changed the user agent to android, I could use the back button to return to search results again. So to keep from browsing mobile sites, I used the custom user agent instead of android user agent, and that way I'm able to browse the full desktop sites, instead of the mobile view.

I tried every method in this post, I also could not find that Google instant setting, it appears they removed it? My problem only started after I upgraded to the newest dolphin browser, I actually down graded before due to this issue and others but I like this version and found a solution. The problem appears to be with the user agent, go to the settings and change your user agent to custom then enter this string
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:8.0.1)
Then clear your data
If you want to learn what everything means just search 'user agent string' and it'll come up, I just wanted to share the only solution that worked for me. Even registered to do so :)

Hi, just recently my Desire started playing up like this. Now, when I return to the internet browser after doing something else, it always taking me back to the Google search home(my homepage) rather than the last page I searched on. I'm sure it didn't used to do this. I think I've tried most of the things suggested on this thread, that are still valid. I've even just tried to change my homepage to yahoo - and spookily I still get the google home page come up when I open the web browser! Any ideas? It's making it really difficult to do things like shop online using the phone.
thanks

Thank you for going through the trouble of registering to provide an answer uisgdlyast. Changing the user agent to "Mozilla/5.0" was the only thing in this thread that fixed it on my Droid 3. :)
