Going back to the iPhone, the battery life of this phone is killing me, I barley get 6 hours of battery after a full nights charge and only normal phone use. I tried the juice defender but that even switches you to airplane mode and without warning no one can call you. I loved this phone but just cant live with only 6hrs of life

I'm on the other side of the spectrum.. never would think of going back to iPhone after having this phone
I am the same but the battery is %^%$#$# killing me, where can I get a extended battery and how do they fit in the phone as the stock battery is a tight fit

The bigger batteries typically come with a special back that'll fit the larger battery.

My wife has a 4S on AT&T. Pales in comparison to my GNex. I will keep a charger handy. Battery problem solved.

You can adjust JD to only turn off data, it keeps your signal, but saves battery by not having data on when the screen is off. I hated the battery to was getting 8-10 hours, got JD, now getting 12-16 which is enough. Also get extended or extra battery. I'd go extra cause extended is only 300 mah more.

Juice Defender is for Rooted devices, if anything, it screws around with your battery. What were your settings on the phone? (Like brightness and that sort of stuff.)

nonsense. i have juice defender on my non-rooted GN and it works great.

OP what really matters is that you have a device that works for you and that you're happy with.

I will say that there are things you can do to get more battery life one of which has been mentioned in the ext battery. Even further if you are comfortable doing so Rooting and putting a Custom Rom/Kernel really really helps. Regardless it really should be about what ever device makes you the happiest no matter which device that is.

Do you have some weird app installed. I don't use juice defender and get 16hrs on average. A standard day for me is 2hrs on the phone, 50 emails between my 2 gmail accounts and about 10 through my pop account and about 1.5hrs of web browsing. Oh and a ton of txt. Now I don't have Facebook. Or twitter so maybe that makes a difference and I do live and work in good 4g areas. Normally my phone comes off the charger at 6am and around 11pm I usually have 20-30% left when I put it back on the charger.this with the standard battery.

I don't see how an extra 250 mAh (1850 vs 2100 mAh, right?) really makes all that much of a difference... I mean if the regular battery lasts someone 6 hours, then the extended might get them an extra hour, correct? I guess you would then swap out the battery to get another 6 hours, eh... so lots of people are carrying batteries in their pockets?

I'm usually never far from a charger...

anyways...

Turning 4g off and getting rid of all your apps that run in the background should help too. The iPhone is going to be 3g anyway, right? and Don't use widgets.

Still battery life is the main limitation of smartphones (and limiting almost all other tech too). Hopefully battery technology will be better in 2 years when I'm due for upgrade!

I want >quad core, >2GHz per core, >2GB ram, >1080p retina, 4G, and a once a week charge for heavy usage! Is that too much to ask for? ;)

Did you check to see if you have the dreaded poor signal issue. That is one sure way to drain your battery. Switch to CDMA and look at cell standby in the battery section and look for a loss of signal percentage. If loss of signal is over a couple of percent then your battery is being drained by the antenna/radio issue many of Gnex's have.

Poor battery life like this is pretty much always one or combination of these.

1) You are in very weak signal area.
2) You have many apps, live widgets syncing in background.
3) Defective battery or phone (very rare but still possible).

Otherwise it should be able to last more than 9 hours even in 4G. If iPhone fits your style, you can turn nexus into similar set up. Just turn off 4G, keep WiFi on, remove live widgets, reduce apps syncing and adjust sync frequency. It should easily go over 20 hours. And I don't like carrying extra batteries. I would rather have external battery charging pack.
