Help Can't hang up phone call when outdoors

When on a phone call outdoors and I want to hang up, I pull the phone away from my face and the display stays black. The proximity sensor is not sensing that I've moved it away from my face. I can't hang up the call. If I hold the phone above my head with the display facing toward the ground the display comes right back. It works perfectly indoors. I've compared this to another phone and the other worked perfectly

I've read that the UV rays from the sun can interfere with the proximity sensor. Verizon does not recognize this as a problem but if you Google it you will see this problem goes way back.

Is anyone else seeing this problem?

Strange. I just got done making a call on a sunny day outside. I was walking through an automated menu so I pulled my phone away from my head 6-7 times to look at the screen and hit a number. No issues. And I was standing right in the sun.

It's likely a software bug.

try to keep the phone in a shadow of your body when pulling the phone away.

really the best thing to do is wait untill official froyo.. which hopefuly isnt far away.. it's what, the 25th?
