Can't hear emails come in while talking on phone

I did a search but have not been able to get a definitive answer to this. When I am talking on my Skyrocket and an email comes in from work, I can't hear the notification of the email. I am really not on the phone that much, but it does help to hear emails come in so I don't have to keep monitoring the screen to see when an email comes in. I am a courier who gets his jobs through email. Thanks for any help.

Just tested on my Skyrocket running ICS 4.0.4 and got the same result as you. While on a call, no notification aside from the status bar notification.

I'll post up on XDA and see if there is a resolution to this
