Help Can't Insert Headset Jack into Port

When I insert the headset jack into the port, it will only go in 3/4 of the way, no matter how hard I press it. As a result, I can only hear music through the speaker. I've had the Epic for less than 2 weeks and this is the first time I've tried the headset jack. When it's been in my pocket, nothing else has been in my pocket. The hole is not clogged by an object (of my doing, anyway - it has been treated with kid gloves). When I shine a flashlight into the hole, it basically looks like a deep metallic well. Obviously, the jack can go in the hole for 3/4 of the way, and then no farther. I have pressed it as hard as I reasonably can.

I googled this is issue and other people have experienced it, but I haven't been able to locate an instance of resolution. It's always someone responding, "Are you sure you're pressing it down all the way?" I tried another headphone jack and it will only go in just as far. Would the quality control on this phone not include inserting the jack into the port to make sure it would seat properly?

I took it in and the Sprint representative pressed it right down. I felt realy stupid, but it isn't the first time, so I have gotten used to it. I tried it, and it stopped at 3/4. I gave it to him, and he finished pressing it right down again. I noticed that there's a sort of trick to it - at 3/4 of the way down there is resistence, and you have to at that point rapidly and firmly thrust it completely downward. It's a different movement than what got it to go in the first 3/4. As I said, I'm not the only one who's experienced this "problem".

That's what she said.

My headphone jack did seem pretty stiff at first, but I don't have any problems at this point. If you've ever seen a jack outside of a phone you'll notice there's a metal retaining spring that locks on the recessed part of the male jack. Sometimes on new female jacks that spring is tighter than it really needs to be, but with use you should find it getting easier.

Mechanics often mimics humanics. It's obvious that Samsung has a long way to go to make their phones idiot-proof.

I had the same problem the first try. I had the service warranty and all so I double checked the specs to make sure everything was the right size and then forced it in. Now it goes like normal.

First time I'd ever had a jack be "too tight" so I was rather weary.
