Root Cant install custom kernel over ultimate droid version 4

Just like the title says, I'm at the laundrymat on my phone so I didn't have the option to search the forums. I wiped the data, and did a back up. But I would like to use chevys kernel vs a p3, just my preference. Anyone know a solution?

what do you mean you can't install over? As in it physically won't let you, or that the phone freaks due to incompatibility?

If its do to incompatibility (check the dev's site for that) you are out of luck, not much you can do except petition Chevy to make a kernel that works with it.

Physically won't let me. I try to install via Rom Manager and the reboots and nothing. I can only oc to what was originally in the rom.

sounds like your recovery is messed up. Use rom manager to flash alternate recovery or flash an old Clockworkmod recovery (Both options are at the bottom of Rom Manager) then flash back to the current Clockworkmod Recovery. you should be good to go then. By the way no reason to wipe data when flashing a kernel

I will give that a try, and I don't wipe anything when flashing a kernel only new roms. I thought I would put that I did a wipe because I usually see that as a resolution to most problems. But thanks for the help ill keep you posted to see if it works.....may have to switch back to bb v4.

The "real" version of UD version 4 doesnt support rom manager. The developer of UD suggests usings ChevyNo1's froyo kernels because they seem to work best. Being that you have Rom Manager I am asssuming you are on clockworkmod recovery. That being said you could and should try to find ChevyNo1's froyo kernels and install them the way you would any kernel. GL

I am having great success with jdlfg's kernels benchmarks are lower but seem real smooth and stable with excellent battery life running at 1.2 (just saying) :)
