I am using a Samsung S4 on Orange in the UK. It is updated to KIT KAT.
I have just started to have a problem with updating some apps . I get an error saying it can't access USB or SD storage and the installation aborts.
I thought this might be to do with the upgrade to kitkat ( i know the access protocols changed) but even some apps that have been updated to kitkat don't work.
In case it wasn't kit kat I have checked and formatted the card but this hasn't helped. Am I missing something simple?

What file system is the SD card using? It should be formatted to FAT32 to work

It was formatted in the phone so it should be FAT32.
I can save other stuff to it ( pdfs, music ) and I can access this stuff as well but when I try to install certain apps ( including the one for this forum) it says " can not access USB storage or SD Card".

Thanks

The apps should be using the internal sdcard. It might be full and not erroring out the way that would make sense. Try finding some data that you don't need or can move to the external sdcard and see if that fixes it.
