Issue:Cant install zip files from SD with clockwork mod 2.5.0.7

Hi all

I had a few problems installing leedroid onto my htc desire recently although i have never had issues before.

When updating to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1170633

I had to adb my SD as i couldn't access the card through CWM, now this issue is fixed. However i now have the new rom installed and cannot view my SD card though CWM and because of this cannot install any zip files.

This is the error i get: assert failed mount("ext3" , EMMC /dev/block/mmcblk0p25 /system

E:error in /sdcard/.......zip...(status 7) Installation aborted.

I really am stuck and am asking for some advice, anything would be great. I think it has something to do with the partitioning of the internal memory or the SD card.

Just for some background info the same error mmcblk0p25 was accompanied by something similar like mmcblk0p21 in my last problem which i managed to fix with adb. But i had no rom installed and cycled through various memory cards trying to fix it.

With Leedroids rom that i have installed it does recommend installing a Optional FULL WIPE to EXT4 patch (FTP) but i can't do this because it aborts each time and am worried that if i wipe everything again and lock myself out i will have to repeat the process.

I have used rom manager to re-partition the SD card and now i'm in a boot loop.

Anyone recommend anything would be appreciated.

Odd because your fat partition should be mmcblk0p1 and p2 should be your EXT.

However you used ROM manager. For future reference there is a sticky in our root forum:

http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/356192-warning-do-not-use-rom-manager.html

I have asked the mods to move this to root forum also.

I would recommend formatting the card and repartitioning it in Gparted. I dont know if you want to burn it to CD, but I prefer to use a VMware machine to use Gparted. It seems complicated but it is not (see VMware guide by follwoing red link in my signature)

Hi suroot just like to say thank you and apologies for the post in the wrong section. what an idiot.

I have just downloaded, burnt and used Gparted and formatted fat32 as well as creating a ext4 partition as well. The reason for this is because of what you said above:

"Odd because your fat partition should be mmcblk0p1 and p2 should be your EXT"

Is this because the rom is not designed for my phone but ported? and why "leedroid" is recommending the ext4 wipe and partition?

I have managed to wipe, and re-install leedroid again in hope i can flash more zip files when booted.

Suroot i have parallels for my mac partition and i used to have gparted on linux as well but deleted it because i used it for just that purpose. Could i also ask you what you recommend for s-off hboot 0.95.0001.

-Update-

After all that i still have the same problem!

I cant install a zip file that changes the lock ring:

Installing: SDCARD:Slim-lock-ring.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update package...
assert failed:mount ("ext3,"EMMC", "/dev/block/mmclk0p25", "/system") || mount("ext4", "EMMC", "dev/block/mmcblk0p25", "/system")
E.Error in /sdcard/Slim-lock-ring.zip
(status 7)
Installation aborted

got to love the hunt for the problem but i'm stumped

Are you manually booting into recovery or using rom manager still?

What recovery have you got installed?

Is that the right recovery for you? Have you used it successfuly before? By manually t
That's vol down + power yes?

yes i have used it for over a year successfully flashing various roms. from leedroid, insertcoin ,pinky, cyanogen. you get the jist ;-)

OK so you managed to flash leedroid sucessfully and after that then you cant. Did you flash the ext 4 patch again?

thats the thing i cant flash the zip files. I have created it myself with gparted. Their is also another zip that will give me sense 3.0 but that wont run either.

Well thats good because that patch will serve you no good, so I dont want you to flash it, I was just trying to figure out if you had.

What I dont get is its fine until you flash leedroid rom, then you cant flash anything else afterward. Maybe that rom is messing you up... Contains somethign that breaks things.

Could you re-re-partition in Gparted then flash a completely different rom and try and flash after that, some add on for that rom or a kernel or something please?

hi SU root, thanks for the input. Im going to try another zip file that moves the boot animation to data and see if this works. And guess what it did!

I don't understand its really weird it had no errors or any sign of problems.

I had oxygen running fine yesterday but didn't flash anything on top of that either.

Shall i still continue with what your suggesting?

hmmm it wont let me install. It just stops and returns to CWM as if nothing happened

Update

Looks like it wont let me install or recover anything now. Md5 mismatch?

Update 2

after rebooting twice i now have leedroid installing again. This makes no sense, will try coolexe again after.
After rebooting recovery same thing happened again. Second attempt took battery out and rebooted again. Installs nand with ext4 alignment and data partition then system and stops and returns to CWM again like nothing had happened. Full wipe, may try through rom manager as have no other option.

Don't use ext alignment as gparted already aligns. That could break your partition

Are you s-off?

Hmm. If it were my phone I would probably get a Froyo sense Rom on there, s-off and flash replacement recovery just to rule out issues or corruption there.

What about Roms that don't use the ext? Cm, redux, will it let you flash those?

okay great that's what are do then, what tool should i use to s off? Would i need to use unrevoked to flash again? as i tried unrevoked for my previous problem and it didn't work saying that i might have too new firmware would this be the rom that i had on at present or because i was already rooted? i had no problem flashing cm yesterday.

going to flash pirate rum froyo sense 2.2

For S-Off go to alpharev.nl. You wouldn't need to use unrevoked again - once S-Off you can use fastboot to flash a new recovery image (see SUroot's guides for this). But as he says, that's best done with a stock ROM loaded (temporarily).

Did you add an a2sd script when you flashed CM7, or just flash the ROM? If you didn't add one, then CM7 would just ignore the ext partition.

can i use pirate rum 2.2.1 with alpharev Bravo stock? or does it have to be a sense rom already on their?

AAA my brain is fried! i think i can't continue on this today but will return to sort this out hopefully tomorrow. AAAAAAAA!

I don't know that ROM, but the bravo stock hboot has the same partition sizes as the desire default, so it's just like what you already have except you also have S-Off.

The stock Sense ROM recommendation was only for running alpharev - it does work with some other ROMs, but not all, so it's just more reliable to use stock. Once you are S-Off you can flash ROMs as usual (or restore a nandroid of whatever you were using before).

I might be stating the obvious here, and feel free to tell me im wrong. But you have a HTC Desire, the first rom you linked to is for the HTC Inspire 4G and the other is for the Desire HD.
I dont think roms for different devices are going to work on something they aren't made for, hence the installation not working?

Quite true! Of course there are Desire versions of both (or at least ROMs with very similar names), but you wouldn't be able to install another device's ROMs successfully.
