Root Can't load CWM Recovery or gain Root.

I'm working on a triumph that was rooted and had cm9. Someone decided to clean it out and cleared everything. When I got it, it would not do anything but stick on vibrate when trying to get to download or launch cwm. I now have the stock vm rom working, but I can't gain root or load cwm. I checked with root checker and it says not rooted correctly. I tried rooting through emulator and when I type in sudo I get permission denied. I've tried to get cwm to load and I get a can't mount file message. I thought maybe it was already loaded, but when I try to boot into it the phone just sticks on vibrate until I pull the battery. I'm new to all this but have been reading the forums and tried a few things. This however is beyond me. Any help is appreciated.

When you replace the battery, are you powering on with PWR and VOL - held at the same time to get the polling message? At that point, you should be able to plug usb cable to PC and phone, and copy over the recovery.img file for CWM. Do a battery pull, power the phone up with PWR and VOL + & VOL - and you should be able at that point to load a rom of your choosing.

I get to polling and plug in the usb. That all works, but when I get into "Mobile" there is no recovery image file at all. When I try to copy files over I get either, not enough room or unable to mount, message.

i see where the problem is...

you have to go into "MOBILE/image" then you will see the file that you need to replace. :)
