Root can't partition SD card

so i've run out of space and am now trying to use link2sd. i did it successfully on my mom's admire, but it's not working so well on my esteem.

whether i use gparted on linux, or cwm, or minitool partition wizard, my phone says the sd card is damaged and makes me format it, thus removing my ext partition.
i'm doing it all properly, both primary partitions, fat32 is first, ext2/3/4 second. i've tried 1gb-5gb and i get the same results. no swap.

it's a 32gb class 10 sandisk.
any ideas? no matter how i do it, the phone says the card is damaged but link2sd actually reads the second partition as i can check the storage data on it.

and i'm on #2 2.5.2

have you tried doing it through recovery? that's how I partitioned my SD card for my Evo
