Can't rate apps unless I join Google +

I've just installed an app and have been informed that I can't rate the app unless I join Google +, what a joke, not all of us want to join up so to have it forced upon us is a bit of a cheek if you ask me, it's unfair on the user and unfair on the developers! What do other people think? :mad:

I think its very annoying as well. Its fine if they want me to use my real name, but forcing me to create an account with Google+ is silly.
 
I think it's a great idea.

I believe it will make idiots think twice before posting foolish reviews. This will lead to a higher overall quality of reviews and also allow developers to communicate with users directly to address issues/bugs, should they choose to.

Signing up for a G+ account (when you already have a general Google account, which you will in order to use the Play Store in the first place) is quick and easy.

Anonymity online should certainly be protected in many domains, but when it comes to app reviews... it's unfortunate but usually those who want to review something and remain completely anonymous are jerks. And will simply post a review in anger, in a pathetic attempt to hurt the developer. Making someone identify who they are, in this instance, ensures that they are more likely to think about what they are writing, and if they're going to criticize, they are more likely to do it constructively.

Please don't misunderstand me, I am not saying you are a jerk. Nor do I think wanting to remain anonymous is, in itself, a bad thing. In all honestly, I agree that having to sign up for the account is a bit of a pain. But I also think that by doing this, Google will create a better overall experience for both developers and those that use their apps. So overall I think it's a good thing, despite being a bit of a pain.
 
Thanks for your reply, although I agree with some of your comments, I just think that Google are doing this to get more people who wouldn't normally sign up to g+ (like me) on principle I wont be rating anymore apps until they reverse this decision.
 
Its a choice. I don't have a facebook account and that stops me from commenting on some sites and from viewing quite a few twitter links - but its my choice...

Yeah but I'm not getting a choice, I should be able to comment on an app I pay money for, without G+
 
Guess I won't be leaving any ratings on apps anymore. Don't force your corporate crap on us Google. Concentrate on making the play store better then we'll talk.

Which is exactly what they're trying to do. You don't have to actively participate in G+ and as joker said; you already have a Google acct. Anonymity has it's purposes but frankly, it's become harder and harder to take anonymous commenters seriously.

I'd rather read a review of the actual app than someone spouting off because they didn't get the paid features in the free version. It's not fool proof but I think this will lead to better APP reviews.

I should have been more specific, by better I meant add more content. I do understand that there are people that leave negative reviews when its not warranted but by this point we are smart enough to tell bullhicky from a genuine review for the most part.
 
I really wish Google+ was at the capacity and as mainstream as Facebook. But since I know next to nobody on Google+ I'm stuck with Facebook as my main Social platform.
 
I am another non-social network user and will not be rating any more apps from now on. Google has my sign up information from my gmail account already. A google+ account can be faked just as easily as a gmail account which means they only care about getting users on google +.

The play store belongs to Google. There are other app stores. You can side-load if you like. Stop thinking that because you use a service, you own it... you don't, as I said, Google does.

And if they want to add/remove features on something they own it's their choice. They aren't 'forcing their corporate crap on you', since it's you who chooses to use their app store. And it's they who decide how their app store is run. And if they want to make having a G+ account a prerequisite for posting reviews, so be it.

Don't like it? Don't just not review stuff, try not using Play altogether.

I'll bet you more than half the people who have run to the forums to bitch about this still continue to use the Play Store. If your going to take a stand, do it properly and stop using the service altogether.
Or, smile and say (without bitching), "I do not wish to set up a G+ account so I will simply not post any reviews". However, say this to yourself. Not to anyone and everyone who will listen about how Google has wronged you personally, for making changes to it's services that are used by millions of people worldwide, daily.
 
I think anyone is quite within their right to moan about anything, thats the good thing about online forums, you can discuss whatever you like, I could say if "you" don't like what is being discussed then don't comment, but free speach is for everyone, not just a chosen few.
 
Good point. You are free to complain. However by extension of this logic, I am free to complain about your complaints. Or offer my opinions on them.
 
Thats what I said, free speech is for everyone! But I still strongly disagree with what Google have done, and yes I know there are other ways and places for getting apps, but I want to stick to legitimate ways. Nuff said.
