Root Can't Root

gnwes

Newbie
I have tried everything to root. For some reason none of the programs ever see my phone. And yes i have installed, uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers several hundred times (ok maybe not that many but pretty close) and i can look at my phone through "my computer" and see the files on it and drag and drop things onto it (so this means my phone is connected right?). Also i set the phone to charge only and usb debugging is selected.

None of the root programs have worked, ADB never sees my phone, easyroot doesnt... (it uses ADB) and revolutionary just sits there "waiting for device......"

Does anyone have any idea why i am not having any luck with this. please dont suggest reinstalling the driverss because that obviously isn't the answer. i have read and re-read the instructions and i cant come up with anything... hopefully someone can give me some insight, i cant be the only one.

Yeah that is what I meant, that is usually the biggest problem people run into thought it may be the case with you.

I haven't heard of this issues on the bolt but are you using an older computer? Have you tried different USB ports for the connection?

Are you sure you have the right drivers, I got mine from nat3mil's youtube video on rooting the revolutionary way. It's in the description

Its probably 2 years old... i have tried all the ports.. same result. I use other usb devices (webcam, flashdrives..etc) without any problems

I'm using the drivers from the revolutionary website

For Revolutionary, I had to install the fastboot drivers and then uninstall HTC Sync to get it to work

I dont have HTC Sync on my computer.

Mine didnt work until i installed htc sync.

Turn off the firewall on your computer? When I rooted, using Revolutionary, I had to turn off the firewall and then it found the device.

worth a shot, but i cant see what it would matter. i definately dont have htc sync installed and revo worked fine for me. i didnt even use the provided fastboot drivers, and it worked fine for me(tho i do have a driver for fastoot allready installed)

i feel like, for whaever reason, your drivers arent being installed.

maybe this thread will help:
http://androidforums.com/incredible...ivers-adb-bootloader-disk-drive-htc-sync.html

That thread totally helped. I had the right drivers but the computer.. i guess wasnt installing them? After rebooting the phone into the HBOOT screen and plugging it into my computer ... then went to HBOOT USB PLUG, my computer finally recognized my phone completely. Was this the way i was supposed to do it from the beginning? I just assumed when i told the computer to install the drivers it would just do it like everything else. Anyway ... Thanks so much, this was frustrating me and i appreciate your input. :D

i downloaded the revolutionary drivers on my laptop, and the install wizard installed them, guess it wasnt doing so in your case

glad you got it working :D
