Help Can't see send messages/deletes contact from threads

I'm experiencing a very annoying issue with my Nexus 4. All off the sudden, any messages I send are not viewable in the thread, and then when I back up to the main messaging app, the contact to whom I last sent a message is nowhere to be found when they should be at the top of the list. My messages are going through, as my contacts are replying and those replies are viewable. I can only get into that thread through notifications are by searching the contacts the long way.

Edit: I've tried restarting, disabling message limits. I'd like to avoid a factory reset.

Oh, sorry, I must have missed your edit up there :(
Anyhoo, what about going to the message app in your applications manager and clearing the cache and data?
You may lose your texts so be aware of that. Perhaps that may resolve it?
By the way, I've moved your thread to the Nexus 4 forum so that others with that device can chime in too;)

Thanks for doing that, sorry forum noob here. Clearing cache and data both had no effect. I can load the conversations via hangouts, messages sent through it show but not messages sent through the default app.

Oh no worries about thread placement;)
I don't use hangouts for messages, but could hangouts be designated as your default sms app and possibly be interfering with your stock messaging app? I dunno, I'm just throwing out some ideas :)

Negative. I have however in the meantime set hangouts as my default so that I can message without trouble, and I must say I can definitely get used to it! I am still bothered by the fact that something is bugging up the other app.

Problem solved! I noticed a select few of my other apps weren't working... snapchat, Play Store, facebook... then facebook detected a problem and suggested that I check automatic time settings. Somehow the "automatic date & time" box got unchecked. Derp! Must have happened in my pocket when I failed to lock the screen.

Thanks for the kind suggestions Mikestony.

^ And I just moments ago solved a token authentication problem on a network printer because it had stopped using NTP for some reason...

Anyway, glad to hear you got it sorted - and THANKS for reporting back to tell us what it was!
