Cant seem to root my sprint hero. Please Help

hi i tried the one step method on theunlocker.com and the command prompt method both none worked on my sprint htc hero it has the build number 2.27.651.5 and firmware version 2.1-update1 and software number is 2.27.651.5. I did the same exact steps and didnt get an error but after i wrote reboot recovery my phone just turned off and didnt turn back on. I pressed the red power button but it didnt turn on that way so i had to take a battery out and put it back in. any help this is my 8th attemp at rooting my hero =[ please help and thanks

thats the exact directions i followed i used the same thread... =[ when i hit reboot recovery it just turned off and wouldnt turn back on until i took out the battery and put it back in..

i held down the down volume button on the right and pressed the power button and i get the HERC XC SHIP S-ON

then
HBOOT
<VOL UP> FASTBOOT MODE

i pressed home but then the screen froze at the htc logo screen...
