Can't send emails with attachments

I have configured the standard mail app (I think it is the HTC modified version). I sent an email with an attachment today and it never got sent, it is still in the outbox folder.

So as a test just now, I sent myself 2 emails (one with an attachment, one without) and only one of the two went through (the one without attachment).

What's wrong?
 
By default, the only e-mail attachments you can send from the Android is a picture.

But, I've whipped this problem. Check out Time Keeper Collaborator, on the Android market. It will send attachments of any type just fine using your SMTP account.

The only thing is that you need to install an application called Time Keeper to get it to work.

Thanks for your reply, but I refuse to download a third party app to do something my Mail App should do already.

What I've found is that if I take a picture using the built in camera and attach it to an email - It will not send. I press send, it says 'Sending email...' which then disappears after a few seconds. Then literally a few days later I'll see a random Notification saying 'Emails could not be sent'. Camera photos are around 600-800 kb.

However, when I connected my phone to the computer, I went to the DCIM folder, then to the 100MEDIA folder and copied a small (24kb) JPG file in there. When I sent an email with this small JPG file attached, it worked.

So I thought it might be the size of the image that is the problem so I tried a 120kb JPG file, attached it to an email but it did not send. It's way too comfortable in the Outbox folder.

Is there any setting or something that I need to change? Can someone please help?
 
This could possibly be down to your service provider - some ISPs limit attachment sizes that can be sent/received.

Well that's a constructive attitude. Why not try the suggested app and see if that works? If it doesnt work either then that could indicate that the default app isnt the problem.

Edit: FWIW, i just sent a 200kb image file as a test and it worked just fine, so it's not an inherent problem with the default mail app as far as i can tell. Dont think there are any settings i've messed with - i did increase the mail size limit (which i think only applies to incoming mail) but only upped it to 50kb so i doubt that's it.

I can't seem to find that app.
 
I've tried sending pics which are of the lowest resolution in the camera but it still does not send through email.

Can anyone else help me here please?
 
Here is an update:

When using the GMail App setup with my Google Account, I can very easily send emails with attachments (I sent one 1mb photo) and it got sent straight away.

So does the problem lie in the Mail App?
 
Not necessarily, it could still be your ISP. Try contacting their tech support, they may be able to identify if you have any settings incorrectly configured in the mail app.
 
By ISP i.e. Internet Service Provider, for my phone, you mean my cellular network provider. I have to talked to them and they say the limitation is down to the people who provided me with the email service.

So I'm currently still awaiting reply from my email service provider about this limitation. Their website says they only support nokia, apple and blackberry devices, nothing else.

The people who provided you with your email service should be your ISP. Unless youre actually using hotmail or something.

Who is your email provider and/or ISP?

Weird. It's email, not some obscure specialist service - it should work with any device which has been configured with the correct settings.

My ISP dont specifically support HTC phones or android, but they have a page which lists the relevant information for configuring any email client. Their email servers dont even know what sort of phone i'm using, it's irrelevant.
 
sorry to hijack this thread guys, but i have a htc hero and i have it set to hotmail for my emails...problem is when i go to add an attachment (when im composing a new email) it tells me the folder is empty..which folder should the files be in for me to attach them to an email??
