Help can't send or recieve text messages

I am running froyo stock root and can't send or recieve texts. it always just says "sending" for about 15 seconds then pops up "message not sent". Does anyone know how to view the smsc (sms center) number for their phone, or get any more debug info as to why sms isn't going through.

more info:
sms is broken in handcent and android messaging
have tried wiping all userdata, caches, delvik cache
does not work on wifi or 3g
*228 does not help
 
I am also having the exact same issue as described at the beginning of this thread, here in Michigan. I cannot send sms after updating LG Ally. Could not call or sms at first,... several reboots then after *228 can receive calls but cannot call out and still no sms. used to work before update.
 
Definitely not a service outage i have another ally sitting next to mine that sends and receives sms fine.

As for calling the carrier i'll try on Monday
 
Sounds like it may be different, but if i get a text while trying to send one, my phone does this every message fails, but sum actually send, but it still says failed. I delete all messages, then use a task killer to fully kill handcent sms, turn my phone on and back on and its fine
 
so i've narrowed it down to bad programming
my phone has no apn's programmed
i wonder how i even have data/voice

on a side note is there a way to truly factory reset a phone as in wipe all programming (or is that considered an of limits topic around here)
