Help Can't set as disk drive

K so i've checked through the site throughly before makin this post and haven't come up with a solution as of yet.

Using my original cable that came with the phone I am no longer able to set as disk drive, connecting it to the computer only charges the phone. That is to say at one point I was able to and recently it no longer detects it. I have updated htc sync fully, rebooted both phone and computer, reinserted sd card, all with the same results. When I connect via the cable under my computer a new drive under F appears to which I am unable to explore. I have it set to ask me to what I want the phone to do when plugged in but when connecting I do not get the option to choose like before. No drop box appears on the phone or anything it just immediately goes to charging.

Any help would be appreciated with this as i'm beginning to grow frustrated.

It could be a faulty cable or the usb port. Swap the cables, test both and see if the fault follows the cable or the port.

In regards to the default to charge only, iirc on HTC sense roms, there's a menu for default behaviour in settings > storage?

I swapped cables and tested on 2 computers, still no luck. You're going to have to explain the htc sense roms a little more in depth for me.

Default behavior is set to set as disk drive, still same problem.

Took the phone to local telus outlet and the guy couldn't figure out the problem either and suggested I just send the phone away for 2 weeks for repairs -.- any other suggestions? Sending aways my last resort.

'My phone explorer' for a stop gap if you need to transfer files to/ from PC? You load the app on both your phone and PC then you can transfer files over wifi.
I've got a similar issue with my original cable - but the dog chewed the end so it is understandable it doesn't work anymore!
