Help can't set up native mail app without cell carrier?

Someone gave me a Rezound with no Verizon plan active. I planned to just use it like a wi-fi-only mini-tablet, i.e., in wifi spaces only where I might browse web, check email, stream music etc. But the native mail app on the phone won't let me complete email account setup without a mobile network. I'm at home connected to wifi, so why would it require mobile network connection?? Is there a workaround? I also tried to use the gmail app and came to the same stumbling block.

Hi teamost and welcome to AF. I've never tried to set up an email account without having a mobile link. I'm betting there is a work around. I'm sorry that I don't know what that is however. I'm guessing it's the providers way of requiring a contract for service beyond a database, camera, music player etc. Is there a chance you can stick in a contracted sim and setting up your mail clients and then removing the sim. You might also try installing a third party mail app. It might work without looking for mobile net connectivity. Anyway, best of luck and thanks for joining AF.
