Can't surf on unsecured networks

I have a Motorola Dext with Android 1.5, I can connect and surf the Internet with any secured network that requires a password. I can connect to any unsecured network (shown by the blue strippy icon), but can never surf the Internet, always getting an error. Anyone know why I might be able to connect properly to secured networks but not unsecured networks?

I have no idea.. let me move your question to your phone's forum. Hopefully, someone there is familiar with your issue. If not, perhaps you can inform your carrier for help.
