Help Can't take video

I used to be able to take video but now, when I switch to video mode and press the record button, nothing happens (except for the 00:00 counter disappearing, instead of counting). I can't open the camera menu and when I go back to "Home" and go back into the camera, it is stuck in landscape mode, shows the notification bar briefly, and shows me just a dimly lit black screen. From this point, the only way I can get out of this screen is to long press the home button and open a recently used app and THEN press the home button again to get to where I want to go.

To get back to camera mode, I have to restart the phone.

I have almost 5G of free space on my SD card but just 45MB of internal storage available. Even at the lowest resolution setting, I'm unable to take video. I'm not sure if memory is an issue.

You dont mention this, but have you done a soft reset?

I have powered the phone off and on several times (that's the only way I can get out of the black video screen) and removed the battery. If there's another way to soft reset, please let me know.
