Root Can't unlock bootloader

EDIT: IGNORE THE REST OF THIS POST AND FOCUS ON THIS:

If the adb reboot oem-unlock command isn't working for you, it means your bootloader is encrypted. phones that shipped after June 2013 have encrypted bootloaders. If so, sorry but all left to do is to flash back to stock ( [BIN]{LGFlashTool} Unbrick/Unroot/Flash ANY (P769, MS769, P760) in Download Mode - xda-developers ) and hope that these guys release this new exploit soon: xda-developers - View Single Post - [GUIDE} Unlock p769/ms769 Bootloader for NOOBS Revisited. They havent made it clear if this will work for phones released after June 2013 so we might as well just need to get another phone.

but anyways... ****. THIS. PHONE! **** LG! I paid good money for this shit whatever happened to OpenSource? Why can't we install custom ROMs on the device we paid for? I'll tell you why: this ******* want to force you to buy new phones every time they decide to discontinue support. Oh, you want KitKat? Better go buy a new phone because we're not upgrading your old one! **** that.

My next phone will be a Google phone. I won't get any carrier discount on it but it'll be the last damn phone I buy in a long long time. Even the Moto G gets great support and meanwhile here we are putting up with this bullshit.

I'm following unRealProjets' tutorial to unlocking the bootloader but I'm stuck at minute 8:25 when this is supposed to happen:

GqsjpkC.jpg

Instead, the LGMobile Support Tool opens:

gIrmIue.jpg

and after 20 seconds or so it stops working and closes...

I want CM11 on this phone but it's such a pain in the ass... Even if I get this running I still got 20 more mins of tutorial lol one of the steps is waiting 45 minutes while playing around with a phone in Russian with inverted image!! LOL

Is there anyway of just getting the stock ROM to look more AOSP? (besides the black system apk) I hate the f*****g Q-Slide too...

If you got the phone after 2013 then you pretty much will not be able to unlock it. Over at Xda they said that the boot loader is encrypted so no possible way to do it.

But anyways that happens to you because you didn't run the https program. Or you didn't set up the lg servers.

I did run the https program and I did modify the hosting file! I did get the phone after 2013 though :(

I've had the L9 since it came out on MetroPCS. Early adopter, but even I won't risk trying to unlock it. It's simply not worth it anymore.

Try this, in the LG R&D Test tool program, click on the to left on "tool" and then "B2C Client setup" . Then make sure https program is running and that you modified the hosting file.

Hope It Works

Well I managed to do everything up to the point when it comes to actually unlock it.
I wait 45 min then I do the adb reboot oem-unlock command and the phone just reboots but doesn't give me any confirmation... Guess the phone is just not unlockable?

EDIT

To hell with this phone! Any phone for Metro easier to unlock and install ROMs?

I've owned this device since around late August of last year. Unlocking the bootloader has been more of a quest than I originally realized because of the slight differences between the wealth of information on T-Mobile models, and our MetroPCS version. In 90 days I'll have owned this phone for an entire year and after countless flashes and resets, it's still locked. I had similar experience with the LG Esteem, another early adopter on a device that literally went nowhere for a long time.

You paid good money for an LG phone, equipped with LG software and (later) LG encryption. There's nothing completely open source about a South Korean multinational conglomerate that profits from selling progressively upgraded devices. That means it's not always in their best interest to let you run an "old" model when a new version of the phone is out. If you wanted real open source you should've gone with a certified device from Google (such as Nexus, Moto G, etc.). LG is in the phone business, not the free phone upgrade hack business. That's just counterproductive.

After buying two "misses" with the Esteem and Optimus L9, my next device will definitely be unlocked from the get-go. The community has done wonderful work with these MetroPCS/T-Mobile phones, and for the hold outs -- keep holding out. For me, the device already feels old. I've run out of space so fast that I now link Twitter and a couple other "apps" from the web browser because I cannot afford the slowness of having all my favorite apps installed. I feel like I'm back to the PalmOS days.

I'm done with LG at this point. Although my wife is a faithful LG supporter, she doesn't see the need for rooting and so forth. My next phone will probably be a slightly loved Craigslist pick where I know 100% it can be rooted/unlocked to fit my needs. As a matter of fact, the only reason I picked up the L9 was because I confused T-Mobile L9 progress with MetroPCS L9 progress. I would've been better off buying the TMo version...

Good luck!

Yeah I attempted to unlock mine until I found out that there wasn't any way legitimately to do so since my phone was a Nov 2013 model. Sucks but ah well. So I left it rooted and cleaned up a lot of excess nonsense. Granted, I'd much rather have CM11 or something else on this but what I have now is better than no phone at all.

Supposedly a group of guys over at xda figured out how to unlock the encrypted boot loader. waiting to see what comes out of it all but will keep all posted.. Not holding my breath till I actually see it in action though.. but yeah no more LG for me.. had no issues with anything and the esteem as far as unlocking or bricking but this is ridiculous..

Good luck unlocking the bootloader on the G3 at best you'll get root and loki. And if you're on tmobile most likely neither. I'll be giving up the G2 for the G3 as soon as it drops.

It is basically like having an unlocked bootloader by patching the kernel. I actually like it better it's much easier to use and less of a headache.

It seems like it would be a drag. You can't flash any rom or kernel you want it has to have the patch which means the dev has to want to incorporate it. Just seems it would limit you. Also no radio or firmware update no kernel options. Dam phone providers

You can install roms and kernels with loki. Bliss has his github up for those that want to learn how to flash loki. Plus if the phone requires loki, more than likely the dev will include it or it wouldn't work.

Well guys it turns out it looks as if it was just a troll talking about unlocking the encrypted boot loader.. had my doubts but was hoping.. if anything changes I'll post but otherwise nothing came out of it..

So I got obsesed with this licjed boot loader thing. Spending hours trying diffren methods. This is what I found. I can access cwm by.... 1st holding down the down volume and middle key and powering on keeping the power button held down tell just before it turns of and then letting go of it while keeping the two others held down. That unlocks the boot loader. Now to boot into CWM you hold down volume and power when it reboots let go of power ait for lights to start flashing and quickly hit middle button. The littles should go solid and it boots CWM. Let me know if this works for you guys!!!?

WARNING TO ALL!!!! This factory resets the phone.

Yes, be careful, @travioso is right and @relyks is dangerously wrong.
Hard reset: all your data lost!
Cheers. Good luck.

Middle button? You mean the Home key?
