Root Can't update to .893

Jeffery

Android Enthusiast
I was at 5.5.893 and wanted to get to 5.7.893. I had done the Webtop hack, so I used johngalt's guide and many other resources to try and update to 5.7.893 without success. Now I am stuck at 5.5.886 after restoring using R3L3AS3DRoot and 43V3R root for the BIONIC v2.1 - xda-developers and I keep getting the following error no matter what zip I try to install via stock recovery:

E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.

What am I doing wrong? Now I can't even get a Webtop version in Settings/About Phone. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Should I just be patient and wait for the full OTA patched by a DEV so I don't lose root?

When you tried to update did you go 5.5.893-5.6.893 then 5.6.893-5.7.893 then flash R3L3AS3DRoot and 43V3R root for the BIONIC v2.1 - xda-developers option 1. Then flash the full 5.7.893 file. Then the webtop hack. I know it is a long process but that it how I had to do it. I was getting the same error code you were. If this is not how you did it let me know and I will find the links for all the files for you so you can try it this way.

Thanks for the response, I have tried the following files:

Blur_Version.5.5.893.XT875.Verizon.en.US_2_.zip (johngalt)
Blur_Version.5.5.893.XT875.Verizon.en.US+(2).zip (another source)

For some reason I can't even get to 5.5.893 again, both of those files fail with the error code.

The links for that are dead beside the full 5.7.893 update w/instructions that links to johngalt's post.

I have never had problems with phones, computers, etc. that I couldn't solve. This is really weird and I am hoping it will end up being an oversight on my part.

EDIT: I saw something on another site that said the Status 7 Error is happening because I had previously upgraded my kernel and the system thinks I am trying to install an upgrade that is older than my current kernel. Is there any merit to that?

The first link points to John's. The other links point to the increments. I thought you were looklng for the increments.

I am not rooted. I have not installed any ofg the leaks. John is the local expert on the leaks.

When he removed the leak it left the updated radio and kernel. He tried to revert to stock using FXZ and the original flash file from Motorola. It threw an error and he had to stop.

In essence there is apparently no way to totaly revert to stock.

The OTA when released will obviously allow you to upgrade from unmodified stock. It is hoped that it will also alow you to upgrad a device with some or all of the leaks installed.

The answer to the second is currently unknown.

These steps were taken from a 2defmouze at rootzwiki post number 194

Follow these steps.
1. Used One-Click Fastboot Restore and Root for BIONIC to flash back to stock 5.5.866. Booted up. Used R3L3AS3DRoot v2 to Root and apply ForeverRoot script.
2. Installed Bootsrap app. Booted into CWR.
3. In CWR Went to Install from SD -> FULL CWR 893 UPDATE FULL_CWR_893_update.zip

4. Rebooted. Checked System to verify that I was on 5.5.893. Checked that Superuser was still present so I knew I had root.
5. Redownloaded and installed Root Explorer. Used it to check the mount_ext3.sh file to verify that the ForeverRoot lines were still present. The last line "chmod 4755 /system/app/Superuser.apk" was NOT there, so I added it back in. Saved the file and exited.
6. Power Down. Boot into Stock Recovery. Installed from sd card the file titled Blur_Version.5.5.893mr1.XT875.Verizon.en.US
7. Reboot. As in Step 4, verified system was now on 5.6.893, and that Superuser still present and functioning. At this point took note that Webtop Version read Unavailable.
8. Power Down. Boot into Stock Recovery. Installed from sd card the file titled Blur_Version.5.6.893-5.7.893.XT875.Verizon.en.US

12. Power Down. Boot into Stock Recovery. Installed from sd card the file from top of first page of this thread where it says: Flash stock recovery of full Blur_Version.5.5.886-5.7.893.XT875.Verizon.en.US

So after a lot of reading I came across this page:
How to get the updates on your modified Motorola DROID BIONIC : Tutorial | Tips for Technology
and followed the instruction except I used fastboot for Mac.

Fastboot for PC/ Linux/Mac link:
[HOWTO] (moto-fastboot) Flash a build on an unlocked Atrix - xda-developers

After flashing the webtop and system images following the instructions in the link above, my phone bootlooped, so did a battery pull. Then I restarted the phone in fasboot mode again, and followed the first part of johngalt's instructions "For stock users on 5.5.886 with no partition modifications (Webtop, etc) at all": http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-bionic/438602-leaked-5-7-893-full-update-886-893-a.html.

SUCCESS!!!

Thank you everyone for your help and I hope this helps someone else!

FWIW: Those are my links as well. I put them up on my MF account b/c it is a paid account and nice and fast - and I linked with the file name so that it would be easier to see which file you're getting.
