Can't update?

I can't download the OTA update that came out. Even when I have full 4g or really strong WiFi, I keep getting an error that tells me service is unavailable.

I have rebooted numerous times, but nothing changed.
Any help?

Same here. The OTA is simply not available to my Thunderbolt. Have tried the various tricks posted here, none work.

I'm unable to update as well. I got the "service unavailable" message a few times, but most times the "Checking for New Software" message that promptly disappears.

I'm not too peeved, as nothing is really *too* off with my phone.

If it gets to next week with no update, I'll call Verizon....Again. *sigh*

I ran in to this problem and I found if you hit check for update again it worked. Might have to hit it a few times but it should work.

Only one way to fix not being able to download the update. Hard reboot phone. Spent a lot of time on call with tech support. Save yourself the time, hard reboot, then download update. Guaranteed it will work.

My phone had not updated yet either. I was under the impression that the ota would be rolled out over the span of a week. If by midweek I haven't gotten it, I'll call. I check for updates a few times a day.

I can't get it either, tried everything. My take....totally ridiculous for any of us to have to go through this for a lousy update....that doesn't even fix anything on 4G, GPS lock, Battery life, or the sms bug! Keep your update VZW. It takes 2 months to roll out a BS update that many of us can't even get? I'm about ready to throw in the towel. Not to mention to jump ship to the Droid Charge 4G would cost any of us $679 retail...Last thing I am is cheap...but that's just plain insane!

Then do us all a favor and get the charge. Over the months we have heard you complain constantly. I can tell you Samsung takes forever to update their phones.

I hard reset and still can't update. So a factory reset doesn't guarantee success.

Excuse me...heard me complain? Yea along with a million other forum members. Gotta love big mouthed un-gentlemen like people like you. Your remark is a little stupid, prob a fanboy...oh well, keep it movin.

Yeah others have complained but this is all you do. I have never heard you say one thing good about this phone. You say money isnt an issue. Well if money isnt an issue then I think its time for you to move on to another phone. No I am not a fanboy as I have had my issues with the phone. I am actually on my second bolt as the first one got screwed by the update.

I mean come on dude you complain the update is crap and dont fix nothing. Still you complain again because you cant update your phone with this crap update? Whats wrong feel cheated that you cant have one more thing to complain about? THat statement right there is a little stupid.

We got it you dont like the Bolt from your posts from the past few months. I think its time to give it a rest.

Yea, your attacking the person, not the issues you clown! The update did nothing from what I have been hearing and reading, and no I can't get it even after a hard reset. So what's the issue? That I said VZW is ridiculous for making it so hard for people to get a lousy update that looks to have fixed nothing? That I said they're crazy for asking $679 for a Droid Charge, when a new Nexus S off contract is $549? What did I say to warrent you becoming such a big mouth? Yes VZW is ridiculous at how they handled all of this...As for your assumption that I hate the Thunderbolt? Never said that, said they have some issues to fix, and if they bring Gingerbread and the new sense the phone would be perfect. So get your head out of the sand, and get lost with your personal attacks, its annoying. Grow up and Worry about yourself, and not how much money I have to spend on a phone...such nonsense.

I had the same problem.
Download the LTEon\off app, and set it to 1x (or "CDMA Only"), then go into "Check for Updates". It will find and download the update (it will take a while, since it will be over 1x).

I called Verizon about the problem, and they told me just to wait 2 weeks before calling them back about it. BS. There is a problem with this update over 3G/4G for some phones and the only way to fix it, is to switch to 1x [for the update].

You know I will ask when you check the update status does it say update unavailable or some server error? I know I would get those and if I clicked it to check again it would work then. Sometimes I would have to click 5 to 6 times. Also remember you live in NYC so the servers might be taxed right now with everyone wanting to update and so on.

If you think I was personally attacking you then I am sorry that wasnt my intentions at all. I just wanted to show you over the months of reading your posts they have all been negative in nature against this phone. So the fanboy as you put it am sorry.

One question is how do you know the new sense and gingerbread will fix all the issues with this phone?

Did this...still no dice. My guess is I'll just have to wait for it to be sent out ota.

Ok man, no offense taken here. I do come of negative at times...lol

I tried like a zillion times to grab that update...I either get server busy, or nothing at all. Same story after even a hard reset. So I'm pretty much giving up on getting this update..lol!
Honestly, I don't hate this phone. I think the whole release thing was insane, but that's a whole other story. As for the phone itself, I love the size and pretty much all about it. I use the kickstand all the time, the screen is bright and vibrant, and for the most part 4G is crazy fast.
But my phone has gone off the deep end recently, locks up a lot now, text messages lock up as I'm typing them, lag appears out of nowhere a lot now.
As for Some Gingerbread...I feel its way more fluid then Froyo...2.2 killed my EVO, the phone was amazing until Froyo came to town. So I'm not really sold on Froyo. Hey sense can be what's bogging down this phone sometimes...who knows! Either way, I hope they bring the real deal update sooner rather then later. All we can do is wait and see man.

I'm hearing that some people are getting a notification without having to check for it. VZW support is saying that the ota rollout to all handsets could take up to a week...so don't sweat it if you don't have it yet. If next Friday rolls around and no update, then I'd worry.

Just think we got off on the wrong foot. I am thinking of changing my name to fanboy. I got a chuckle out of that lol.

I agree gingerbread seem to run better on my Droid 1 than group did. The battery seemed to do better.

With your freezing while typing. Are you running the stock keyboard or aftermarket ones? Why I asked is I got lots of typing lag if I didn't use the stock keyboard. So if you don't use the stock keyboard then try it and see what it does.

Lmaoooo...classic! Jedi...aka FanBoy!
Yea deff wrong foot man...

Gingerbread is so insanely smooth on the Nexus S in my experience...but that's a whole other beast. Hope we see smooth sailing like that on some other devices.

Yea I'm using the stock keyboard, used the Gingerbread keyboard for a little bit when I first got the phone. But been using the stock one for some time now. I get lock up's all the time these days, even after the hard reset.

I never got an automated notification I had to check for it. Is it possible they stopped sending out the OTA because of some phones having issues with it and some not? I know Samsung did this with the Epic when the first Froyo update went bad. Some got Froyo some didn't then about a month later another whole new revised version was released again.
