Can't update

So I have the S4 with ATT. I keep getting notified of an update on my phone, I can download said update with no issues, reboots to install, then I get a message saying install was interrupted.
That's it. Maybe I can flash a decent ROM on it. I'm out of ideas
 
So as I've posted in the past, I've been unable to update my phone. It starts the update and then craps out halfway thru reboots the phone and then says the update was interrupted. I did try and root my phone unsuccessfully at one point and would love to flash a ROM but at this point I saw the option of updating thru Kies and wasn't sure if this was something that is worth trying to see if it would work?

I merged your posts over here in the S4 forum. Keeping the discussion to one thread hopefully will get you your answers quicker.

A couple of questions ...

Are you getting any specific error messages when you either try to apply the OTA update or use Kies? Since you mention AT&T I would think Kies wouldn't work, unless you didn't get the phone directly from AT&T.

You also mention a failed root attempt. What exactly did you do? It could be that simply by attempting to root you modified your phone enough to prevent the update from applying.
 
So I tried to root my phone with a ROM that I thought was made for the ATT variant of my phone but it turns out it wasn't. So I boot my phone and it shows the lock "unlocked". Not sure if this means anything. I am technically savvy I'd like to think but for some reason I cant grasp this rooting the S4. I rooted the Droid X a looooooong time ago. I can't grasp rooting the S4 ATT variant.

and flash it to your phone by carefully reading and following the instructions and video contained in the links in #1.5 of
