cappy having strange battery drains

So I hqve had this problem twice now and even once on my moms incredible. Pretty much I'm just holding the phone in my pocket or a case and next time I pull it out it is ridiculously hot and the battery has dropped a severe amount. The first time, I entered an exam with full battery. I did not touch my phone at all or do anything different. I come out 1 hour later to see it at 3% battery and blazing hot (despitr it shutting off too with the low battery). The same happened to my moms incredible. The 2nd time was just tjis morning. I leave my house for school with full battery and after the 20 minute drive I notice my phone is now at 88%. What gives? This happens randomly so I do not believe it is an app or process on the phone. I always keep it in the same pocket too so I am probably not hitting it.

It may also help to add that my battery life, normally, is good. A full day will end with 65%-75% remaining and I often go 2 days without charging.

My battery life has always been fine until a few days ago. I was in the market updating my apps, when the phone went berserk and went dark. I had to remove the battery and reboot. Since then, my phone will go from 100% to dead in 5 hours without any usage whatsoever. It gets super hot. I don't have any apps in the task manager or in the running services (except for Google Maps). I have tried the battery calibration procedures listed in this forum, but it hasn't made any difference. I am about at my wits' end.

ETA: I tried swapping out batteries with my wife, but my phone died while hers ran strong, so it's not the battery.

Have you guys tried disabling the GPS. While the GPS is working the back of the phone can get pretty hot and GPS functionality eats up a lot of power.

Good luck.

I always keep my gps off. So that shouldn't be the problem.

Thanks for the reply though.

I have the same problem. It's been happening more and more lately. I can't figure out what is causing it. Most of the time, it happens when I'm away from my house. I'd be listening to music off of my phone, in the car, and I'd look at it after like 20 minutes and the phone would be very hot and the battery would be down like 30% from where it started. At first, I thought it might've had something to do with the music player (winamp) and/or wifi going nuts trying to find a signal, but it happened recently in my house, while I was connected to wifi. At that time, I was listening to music on winamp. But, I've listened to music on winamp a hundred times before in the house and it never drained my battery in any extreme way. I'm kind of stumped, but I'm still thinking it has something to do with wifi.

I have noticed that battery life has dropped drastically for me too. It seemed to happen suddenly about a week and a half ago.
