Root Captivate i896 ROM flash

Hi All,

I'm a noob here and have a few questions I can't seem to find answers for. I have a Samsung Captivate i896 with stock froyo 2.2. I've rooted my phone successfully and now want to flash Serendipity 6.4 or 7.

First question is, by flashing any ROM, does it come with a kernel already?

Reason I ask is I flashed custom kernel Speedmod kernel i897 k13e 500hz cwm. All was great and phone seemed faster but found out when making calls receiving end mentioned they could barely hear me and they heard static. So I went back to stock kernel.

Is there a fix for the Speedmod k13e static issue?

If not, what Kernels will work with Serendipity? I've been reading and reading and can't find any info on that. I'll only flash a custom rom if there is little bugs and won't cause too much harm to my phone.

Thanks in advance to any responses.

Yes Serendipity VII dose come with a custom kernel (Based on xcal's 1.2 with BLN and Voodoo) You can fined all things Serendipity HERE

I do not know of a fix for Speedmod. I tried this kernel and had the same audio issue on the receiving end. :(

I have an unlocked Samsung Captivate i896 from Rogers which is unlocked to work on Fido. I guess this means its sim unlocked to work with any cell phone carrier.

Does anyone know if I will lose this if I wipe the internal sd? I want to know before proceeding to flash a new rom. Steps do say an sd wiper/factory reset is required.
