Captivate Newbie

I bought my Captivate on 11/17/2010 and am confused with a couple of things. How do I make sure all of my apps, programs and things like that are turned off, and not draining my battery? How do I know if an app is using DATA or not? Is there a way I can tell. Also, What are some important apps that I can benefit from? And how do I upgrade my captivate to Froyo from Eclaire?

P.S. I don't use any networking websites, so please, no apps to use those.

Thanks so much for the help!

Welcome to the Android Forums!

Android is smart enough to automatically suspend inactive applications so they don't continue to use phone resources. Some will suggest installing an automatic app killer but this may actually be a double edged sword. When a task that Android expects to see in the background is killed, Android automatically restarts it. If the task is set to be killed automatically this creates a loop that will quickly drain the phones battery.

you can try advanced task killer.with this you can choose how strict you want to set it and what apps to kill. This way you can only set to atuomaticly kill apps that wont restart.
