Captivate text notification

I noticed when I first activated my phone when I'd miss a call an orange mesaage box would appear with the number I had missed. The text message box was green with the number of new messages appearing. I don't know if I changed a setting while exploring the phone? I see how to add sounds to notifications but have found nothing on my issue. The only way I see messages now is when they flash across the bar at the top of the screen and if I miss that I have to open the message folder. Help is greatly appreciated.

Here's your instructions:

1) Tap Messaging Icon
2) Press Menu (lower left most button)
3) Tap Settings
4) Press Menu
5) A Pop Up Will Appear saying:
"Restore Default Settings"

Once you tap that you will be all set.
