I would try and pm hyperm3. in another thread we was comparing his captivate with his nexus 1 when syncing contacts.

I was told if I didn't get the Captivate to get the Nexus One. I think the Nexus is supposed to be faster, but I don't know. Never played with one.

I originally wanted an N1. But then i saw the captivate. I was SUPER excited for about a week. Then the phone actually came out.
Theres the reception issues. NO support from the community. Its early, but they just dont seem interested tbh. thats how its always been for non HTC phones.
The phone also feels cheap-ish.
Im glad i didnt get either to be honest. N1 is too old and expensive, and the captivate is just, meh.
Best best if youre like me, an iphone 4 owner that feels like tinkering a little....Wait for a the new hot HTC android phone to come around.

This seems to be up for some debate.
This is definitely not the case. Just look at all the stuff that was flooding these forums before it was released on Sunday. It was already rooted before release! How is that "NO support from the community"?
I suspect at this pace it's going to get a rapidly-growing amount of support.
I've held one and used it. I strongly disagree. The phone is sharp and solid. The metal backplate is a nice touch.
Honestly, the only reason people call the Captivate "cheap-feeling" is because they're comparing to the iPhone. Before the iPhone existed, the Captivate would've been considered an example of top-of-the-line build quality.
Just because the iPhone is more solid and heavier doesn't make the Captivate suddenly "cheap-ish". It's not.
I wish the Captivate had the amazing resolution of the iPhone 4, but the benefits of Android and SAMOLED make up for it I think.

The only thing that might make Nexus One faster at the moment is Froyo (Andrioid OS 2.2). Once 2.2 is released for the Captivate, expect things to change. You can already see how much faster it is in graphics performance while still running 2.1:

I get excited every time I see that video. I really can't wait to see what these things can do. And if only there was a way to improve this things I/O. Fix the transcription speeds and the Galaxy S phones have the X beat...
I initially thought it felt cheap-ish because it was TOO light. I'm used it it now, and I love the weight and slimness of it. I will, however, but an extended/larger battery if seido makes it for the captivate.
If you are speaking about the reception issue because it shows less bars, I can tell you that I am able to hold calls even with 0 bars over the iPhone 4 that I had, which had showed 2 or 3. The algorithm that samsung used must be very strict when it comes to bars and the strength.
The biggest problem I have is GPS lock, which, I hope is a software issue..
Come on already with the trolling. Why is that the first thing out of peoples mouths all the time as soon as someone doesnt agree with the rest of the pack?

The build quality of the phone is great. My friend and i agreed on that part. It feels cheap to me because it has this super light feel to it. I dont like that.
The reception drop i observed was pretty severe. The interesting part, is that it happens almost instantly. I'm a long time Symbian S60, WM, and iphone user since the original iphone. I didnt know there was a field test mode within the settings. I wish i could have seen that rather than blathering on about bars.
Either way, theres too much that i dont like about the phone itself. Its not even split down the middle with pro's and cons.
I might feel different once i see a vanilla froyo rom on it though

The benchmarking tests have shown Nexus1 with Snapdragon and Froyo to be currently faster than Galaxy S with Hummingbird and Eclair. But other Snapdragon phones that still run Eclair are slower than the Galaxy S. This is understandable due to the support for JIT compilation in Froyo. Once Froyo arrives on Captivate, it'll surpass Nexus1 in performance, becuse the underlying hardware is superior.

I'm totally new to Android, but have been a phone geek for some time.
From seem editing on my motorolas, to an Iphone, now this Captivate.
Of all the phones I've used, I have to say I like the Captivate the most.
It just feels crisp when I scroll thru it. The screen is really remarkable.
Stunning clarity and graphics on it, imo. The Live wallpapers are quite
cool. Being a Charge the Phone Every Night kinda user, I havent
really noticed a battery drain due to the LIVE Wallpapers.
The phone has already been rooted via a simple 5 step method.
There is already a guide for sideloading apps and another for removing
some of the bloatware.
Additionally, since this phone is being released across all major carriers,
I expect the community to expand exponentially. While there will be minor
differences between the various versions (Vibrant, Captivate, etc).
I believe it would only be minor mods to convert a new ROM for example
from one to another.
Overall, I'm quite happy with this phone so far.
Now, I just need to find a belt holster for it, so I can take it out
of my pocket. Otherwise, I'm one stoked duck...

Its a great device, despite a not so well done firmware and only 2.1. It is much nicer to hold and use than the N1 imo. I will overlook the software based drawbacks in the hope that time will improve the user experience... the sheer number of these devices should drive progress both with Samsung and in the android dev community.

I had the Nexus from when it first came out an got rid of it recently. I now have the Captivate and I think it's better. Nexus had issues with touching one part of the screen and another part being selected. Wifi disconnecting on it's own and not reconnecting. The Nexus is good for a stock Android experience and development phone. Of course it's gets the updates first as well. But other than that I don't see any reason to drop that amount of money for it when you can get the captivate cheaper.
