Help ^&%, Captivate won't turn on or go into Download Mode :(

Was using ODIN and it crashed. Was trying to flash the stock froyo back onto my captivate because I had to send it back to AT&T. Now the phone only stays on black screen, won't enter recovery/download mode when holding "volume up and down and power/plugging in usb cable" and won't do ANYTHING.

Please help? Any suggestions?!?
 
Three suggestions.

1. Leave it alone. You were returning it for a reason. Its current status is another reason.

or...

2. Revive it with a jig (easy). Needed: 99 cents to purchase the following from Radio Shack.

Part 271-1347
100k-Ohn Resistors
1/4 watt
5% tolerance
Colored stripes: brown/black/yellow/gold

1) I was sending the captivate back to AT&T because I had a refurbished one (my USB was coming loose on mine)

2) The resistor trick didn't work. Been trying it the past 20 minutes with no luck :\ still all I get is a black screen, no words, !'s, or anything. Just BLACK. :\
 
Not only was the USB coming loose, but, lo and behold, it just stopped working. Imagine that.

When I watched the supplied video the guy who made the jig had to get it just right. Took him a while. Plan B (the $8 thingy) will do the trick more elegantly, but will take a few days to arrive.

My vote? Solution number 1. Samsung will be re-flashing it anyway and they have too much to do to stop and say "hmmm."
 
so if I send them a non-working captivate would they not charge me for it? how do i say it quit working? lol... "I was using ODIN to flash stock froyo back on it and then the phone died" :\
 
Call AT&T and let them know that you turned it on a little while ago and...nothing. Even though you're sending it back for the USB thingy, you wanted your record with them to reflect this additional anomaly.

It's a firmware thing. You didn't break the physical unit nor drop it in water. Be nice to the AT&T rep (as I'm sure you would be anyway) and all will be well.

Yes, you removed the battery and replaced it. Yes, you did the Samsung fix-it dance (involves standing in one place and doing nothing). Yes, you tried everything and just wanted them to know its condition prior to sending it back.

Nota bene: if you're turned away at the pearly gates, forget you knew me.
 
ok i kind of have he same situation.. was trying to install the new 2.2 OS.. and now all i get is a black screen with a picture of a cell phone with a triangle with ! in the middle and then a PC.. att said call samsung, samsung said send it in.. is there a way for me to fix it? will they know it was rooted??
 
Will it not go into download mode using this method?

Remove battery, SIM card, SD card (if present)
Connect USB cable from computer
While holding down up & down volume, re-insert battery
