Help Captive Portal not coming up when connecting to WiFi

Has anyone figured out why some Android based phones do not get redirected to a Captive Portal once you connect to a WiFi network. I have read too many threads and in the end there is no real solution. Has anyone figured this out? I am using a Eris running 2.1 rooted. I have no problems at home or any network without a Captive Portal. This is driving me nutts.

I'm not sure.

I personally try to avoid publicly available hotspots like the plague anyway, so I prefer to use the phone's 3G network - it should be less prone to snoopiness.

Have you tried an alternate browser? (Dolphin, Dolphin HD, xScope, Miren, etc.)

I've tried all the ones you mentioned. The only one I haven't tried is Opera. I doubt that will help. Any other takers... I have to connect as this is for work and it would be faster than any G network.

Is the captive portal a flash page or something? I've never heard of such a thing (and it sounds like a dumb solution, if that's what it is), but that may explain why the Eris will not connect with it. Do you happen to know the captive portal that they are using?

BTW, not that this should matter, but are you running a custom ROM or just stock rooted?

This is a customer ROM on 2.1. I'm thinking of upgrading it to 2.2. This is driving me nutts. I do not see the Iphones having this problem. It just works!!

I just posted an answer here.

You shouldn't post the same question in different places on a forum by the way.

Thanks for the answer (which was, for others who may find it here, using the third-party browser Dolphin Browser HD.)

I will have to try on an Eris running stock later on to see if this actually works, though.

Hi !

Can not connect to captive portal with this configuration :

-Samsung Galaxy s II , ICS 4.03

-Captive portal is not shown : Error = " page not found "

-Browser use : Opera, stock android Browser, Dolphin and Firefox

In my PC we use a suffix for the network but before having this portal everything worked fine for browsing the internet. We are using DHCP for the WIFI connection.

Thanks in advance for your help.
