Accessories Car Dock Discussion Thread

I have the Soundgate M2..it was stable when it worked, up until a hot summer day :( I was using the navi and the whole mount came off..so much for the double sided tape..good thing I purchased it using the discount code.

I just got a new stereo for my truck... it's a Clarion CZ500 with bluetooth and usb connectivity... very cool if I could get it to work with my htc hero... when I plug the usb cable into my phone, it senses it and asks me if I want to "mount" my phone with the "computer".... So I hit "mount", but nothing happens... It says "file seaching" on my car stereo, but again nothing happens... I'm wondering if there is a program I can download on my phone to get Pandora to work... Or if I have music on my phone, to get that to work..... It's got an AUX plug that I can connect, but it would be really cool if I could get the usb to work..... in the user manual, it says it's designed for ipod and iphone... well surely there's a program out there that can handle a simple htc hero... any help is appreciated... thanks, Jon

I bought this bad boy from Amazon. Imm very, very pleased with it. The FM transmitter works and the phone recognizes it as AC power. I can easily position it in front of a vent in my car so the whole rig stays cool while I'm driving whether I'm using GPS or not. My only gripe with it is the placement of the cables. The power cable comes from a USB dock on the top right side and the DInc's plug is on the bottom-left. You have to plug a USB cable in there and then into your phone. The USB cable comes out sometimes when you're first putting the phone in. I need to figure out a way to anchor it in the dock on the one end. The cable for the FM transmitter comes out of the bottom of the dock. Of course the DInc has it's headphone jack at the top. You end up with your DInc looking like a Borg of some sort, but the rig does work and the FM transmitter is solid and broadcasts well in my city. Unfortunately, the controls for it are set on the back top of the dock so you'll have to reach over the phone to adjust them. Also, the transmitter jumps up in increments of .1 which is bizarre to me. FM frequencies jump in increments .2 They go from 88.1 to 88.3 to 88.5 etc...... The transmitter lets you go from 88.1 to 88.2, etc.....

Overall, the dock works very well and my only real gripe with it is that it slips and rotates in the dock sometimes and constantly has to be re-adjusted. It's a bit of a pain. I think I can fix it with a rubber washer, but haven't had the chance to try yet.

Edit: I'm going to have to add to my overall review of this thing. I tried a test call today and while in the dock, it turns on the speakerphone feature of the phone and routes the incoming audio through the car's speakers. The audio it picks up (in my car at least) doesn't sound half bad in quality. I was very impressed by it.

Hm that was the on I was going to get. I wonder if there are similar/better ones out there... I really want to use it for music and the GPS..

Inspiration from Overclockers UK Forums - View Single Post - Garmin Nuvi car mount + [phone model] Hard Case = uBer cheap awesome quality mount!

...now if I could solve this grounding problem...ugh

This is an elegant custom bracket. I assume I could also mount the socket end to my Garmin bean bag mount as well. Did this use the Nuvi bracket cut down or another bracket? How did you attach it to the case?

Nice. I own an '08 Civic too, and it so happens that I'm also leaning towards an Arkon mount. But instead of a windshield mount, I'm pondering a dashboard "bean bag" type mount, like the SM412 model listed on Arkon's site:

www.arkon.com/Smartphone_Holder.php

I'm hoping it'll fit somewhere on that ledge between the Civic's steering wheel and speed gauge area. Not sure if it'll work though.

So which did you decide on? I have the same Civic and I'm also torn between the friction mount and the windshield from Arkon. The awkward angle of the windshield could put the phone so far away that you wouldn't be able to reach it!

Let me know what you chose.

Anyone try the Arkon Slim-grip? My friend has the Bracketron one and I hate it because it looks bulky. I've seen many nice iPhone ones too but they're designed around no-case.

This is worth a look too - its pretty flexible and had eigth steel legs - four wrap around the phone and the other four attach it to an airvent, the dash or even the mirror. It is very strong and the rubber legs help it grip really well. I like that I can take it from my car to my girlfriends with no mess or fuss. Not for everyone perhaps but I love mine.

I had the Verizon dock, but it turned out to be too fragile and started falling apart after about 3 months. We now have some local laws in place where we can't have devices obstructing our view in our windshields, so I had to find a replacement that mounted elsewhere. So far, I'm liking this mount I found on ebay:

Twin Slot Car Charger Cradle Mount For HTC Incredible - eBay (item 190449086106 end time Oct-02-10 16:34:16 PDT)

I've had it a few weeks now and like it. Plus the belt clip attachment from the Verizon dock will fit on this one as well, which allows for it to rotate to landscape. The only thing I don't like is that while it is secure and doesn't move around in the outlet, the neck part does wobble slightly, though not enough that the phone would work loose. I fixed it by setting it next to my dash and fastening it with a piece of electrical tape.

That this is kinda creepy looking, though looks like an interesting concept. Any words on how stable it is? How easy/difficult is it to attach/remove?

Hi,

Would the magnetic mount (tetrax, etc) work if you placed the adhesive metal disk inside the rear case? Evo has a very thin plastic rear case and it would be easy to superglue the disk to the inside of the case. Does the mount require the small "nubbin" to hold it in place? Maybe the X-adapter would work OK? I am sure the magnet would grab it ok.

Are there any mounts out there that can hold my phone with the standard verzion silicon cover attached? I am looking for a compact car mount like the standard car mount that has the attachment similar to the holster attachment where it just snaps in. I do not want the kind that grips the phone on the sides. I also do not want to have to modify my phone in any way.
Thanks

I have recently installed and this one is "Universal Mini Car Vehicle GPS GSM Tracker Tracking Locator" You can track the driving information via google map in your phone...its really amazing one..
