Car Kit Mode?

So under the new 2.1 Navigator app settings, there is a setting to "Auto launch NaviPanel in car kit mode"

How do I get the phone to enter into this "car kit mode"?

yeah, I would like to get my EVO to launch into car kit mode as well. Is there a way to get the mode to auto launch with out the official car kit?

I don't believe the eris has the hardware inside to do this. I did some research once I had 2.1 loaded, it seems a magnet in the dock lets the phone go into the dock mode. I tried a magnet all over the eris body it did not go into dock mode.
Since it doesn't support other 2.1 features because of hardware limitations.
