Well. Okay, I get it, you don't care how it works - just that the base outputs sound. But I'm not sure it's a completely unimportant clarification, is it? For instance, if the pins output sound, you wouldn't have to have a powered mount - but since they don't, you must have the mount plugged in. It also makes the mount more expensive, larger, and far more prone to failure. It also means if you wanted the highest quality audio (which you really need a hard wired stereo pair for), you can't get it through the dock.

I'm not trying to be pedantic - these will be concerns for some people (including myself).
 
I'm confused. I bought the car mount for my nexus from Verizon yesterday...I used it yesterday. Perfect fit, had all the proper slots for sound charging port, and aux. So its obviously built for the nexus. Just confused what all the fuss is about.

It doesn't utilize the pogo connector. So you have to plug and unplug the charging cable and audio out cable on the phone every time you use it. As opposed to a dock that uses the pogo where you just drop the phone in and it's connected.

Ohhhh so they're coming out with one that utilizes the dots on the side?
 
OK, to update everyone... I bought the Tetrax XWay and it's great. I had to buy a cheap case off eBay as I didn't want to stick the metal piece to the back of my phone, but really happy with how it work. The magnet gives a strong hold and my phone has never looked like moving.

It also looks great as there is no bulky holder and the phone appears to just hover over the vent.

Highly recommended!

On that subject, I have not found a glue that will successfully stick the metal disc to the phone back. The polypropylene that Samsung uses is slippery stuff - even the plastic-specific epoxy I used came off.

Sheesh.

It's plenty tight so that the phone won't fall out, even on bumpy roads, but really easy to get in and out. It's a well designed holder, check out the quick vid I made.

The sticky mount is awesome, you can put it almost anywhere and it'll stay put, and it's super strong.

FYI - Both sticky surfaces (Dashboard side and phone side) remove without ANY damage to surface. I have removed in both instances and nothing was damaged.

I have not tried to use on the back of the nexus yet. Did you apply pressure for a good amount of time?

Nice video.

I will say that I was skeptical at first because there is no way to tighten the ball socket on the mount, but it has been good in my truck since a year ago last Thanksgiving. I thought it would get loose and creep down and it has not.

I had a mega-grip before that. It worked well for a while, but the push-button release started acting up and the squeeze-together sides were coming out of sync. I threw that thing away.

I think the mobile grip is simple and elegant compared to the big klunky mounts like the mega-grip. It is also pretty cheap compared to some of the solutions I've seen. Nice product.
 
I'm guessing that if they ever do release a dock that uses the pogos that it'll be atleast $100. It seems that the 2 favorites are the Mountek CD Slot and the Tetrax Xway. I'm leaning towafds the Xway.

The only problem with the Xway that I've experienced is that the metal disc will not stick well to the back of the Galaxy Nexus, and I tried a couple different kinds of glue with no luck. If you're using a case, it's not a problem, but I finally resorted to drilling a small hole in the battery cover, laying a thin piece of metal on the inside of the back, and putting epoxy on the back of the Tetrax disc. So, essentially the disc is glued to the piece of metal inside the battery cover.

This actually was pretty easy but, of course, there's no going back unless I buy a new battery cover. The battery covers are cheap, so it doesn't really matter.

You may have luck with other kinds of glue - I tried a couple varieties of epoxy that did not work.
