Hello l am new to this! Am trying to set my Android phone up. I was told I need the "root" whatever that is, to use certain applications, so I want to find the answer to that. Thank you!

+1 to El Presidente's comments re. rooting. There are some root-specific applications, but there are probably non-root alternatives for most of your immediate needs.
