I use CardioTrainer pretty regularly and I like it, though I don't quite understand how it counts calories. It seems to greatly overestimate them.
As for the accuracy of the walking distance, no, it's not very accurate. But even a 10% error margin would suit me fine, actually. I'm usually more concerned about approximate distance, not the exact one.
I don't know how to estimate the error margin, nevertheless. The only experiment of that kind I had when I was walking hand-by-hand with my girlfriend. We have the same HTC Desire phones, we turned on CardioTrainer simultaneously and we turned it off at the same time too.
My CardioTrainer showed that we had walked 11.23 km, her device showed the figure of 11.07. The difference was 160 meters, which is not that big for 11 km. So I guess it's more or less accurate.
