i know illl probably have to flash a custom rom which im ok with. i was wondering where in the device the carrier text "metropcs" is located? the one thats on the lock screen and in the notifications area. i want to change it and it should be as simple as changing a string of text in a file somewhere and reflashing with that image right? anyone done this? im on stock 2.2.1 with teamchickeneaters rom and custom recovery if any of that is important to my situation.

I'm not sure about the one on the lock screen (I use widgetlocker so I don't see it anyway) but the one in the notification area changes. I just noticed it the other day when I was out of the area and saw a flashing triangle pop up in the status bar so I pulled down the notifications and it had changed to "TravelTalk". I don't think anyone has found a way to change these yet. Good luck.

I was poking around in framework-res and happened to run across this thread. according to xml you can still push an eri.xml to /data and if you want to change the other text such as traveltalk you can do that in the eri.xml in framework-res. I've always used cdma workshop or qpst to change my banner. But if I run across something I'll post it for you.

I been looking around and here's another idea
change
ro.cdma.home.operator.alpha=MetroPcs

to whatever your heart desires

yeah cdma workshop has worked in the past it's under nam tab for banner

no this didnt work. under the string there is a line that reads

ro.cdma.home.operator.numeric=311660

maybe this has something to do with why it didnt work. im gonna try some stuff out and see what i figure out and ill try cdma workshop later as im walking out the door now...
