Case Opinions? Corsair 800D vs Rosewill Thor V2

alostpacket

Over Macho Grande?
So as Im still researching components to my new rig I'm stuck on the decision for a case. Any opinions welcome.

(I decided again the NZXT because of the angled drive bays and I changed my mind about the look of it.)

So is the price of the Obsidian justifiable? I like the idea of a quality case that might make it into my next rig after this one... but I dont know if this is enough to justify over 2x the price of the Thor. I'm leaning towards the Obsidian just because the build quality looks so nice, but that price makes me wonder if I am crazy.

Option 1
Corsair Obsidian 800D ($295 w/shipping)

Option 2
Rosewill Thor v2 (~$130)

(edit)

Option 3
Corsair 600T (~$160)

I have the Corsair 600T SE and I love it. Their cases run big, just an fyi.

That's another I am looking at. Seems a much more reasonable price.

Big is good too. The mobo I am getting is going to be E-ATX (well sorta).

But I have read people are able to fit this mobo in the Corsair 600T and 650D without problems.

What are you doing on your PC? I ask because the two of those towers are gaming towers, and one isn't. The Obsidian is going to have crappy airflow for gaming, and I wouldn't recommend it.

I'm going to water cool the cpu, so the only concern is the GFX card.

I think I am going to get this instead:

Corsair Obsidian Series 650D

11-139-006-TS

From what I have seen also the temp differences between these kinds of cases are negligible. So I'm thinking I'm going to go with something solid.

Corsair Obsidian Series 650D

If it is any consolation, my case (Corsair 600T SE) is mid-ATX, but nearly the same size as a full-ATX. It's obviously got plenty of space, and great cooling. I have a 240 on top and front, and 3x 120mm (one for exhaust and two for gpu/midsection).

Epic case. I'm personally not a fan of the bland cases like the 650.

From personal experience, they're not. I'm pretty anal about keeping my system cool and the differences between the types of cases can be pretty huge. Gaming hardware can get pretty hot, and a gaming case specifically engineered to keep your system cool (weather it's liquid cooled or not) is going to make all the difference in the world.

Good choices!

I have a Gigabyte mobo and love it to pieces. I'm an Antec girl though when it comes to towers. ;)

I'm a Gigabyte fan too, but I would get an AsRock or ASUS if the feature set was right. I love Antec cases too, but I had the 900 and all of my case fans died after about 4 years, so I decided to go with something new. It seems I have a new found love for Corsair products.

I had bad experiences with Asus in the past. But they certainly make excellent Android tablets (glances over at Nexus 7). But on a previous gaming rig I built (like 7 years ago heh) getting drivers was a nightmare.

Normally I''m sort of an EVGA fanboy, but their z77 board has got some major complaints in forums and whatnot. However they tend to be the best with support. So I'm not sure. The Gigabyte Sniper3 got good reviews but even the comments about that board have given me pause. Seen similar complaints regarding Asus boards too.

I've seen these ASRock boards, but never heard of them before this build.

Something about EVGA being an American leans me in their direction though.

Asus, ASRock and Gigabyte are all Taiwan I think. Maybe that's a dumb prejudice, I dunno.

I like Antec cases also but I havent found any from the current models I really want.

I don't do anything besides EVGA when it comes to GPU. I love their product and will never go to anything else for GPU.

I read that about the fans for that case (Antec 900, which is what I currently have) when I was doing my research, and bought new fans (with the exception of the top fan). I also wanted fans without those silly lights all over them. Five years later they're all still going strong (knock on wood!).

I added the Antec P280 case on my X-Mas list, but I don't know if I got it yet because I can't get my sweetheart out of bed so we can open gifts! There is a rather large wrapped box for me though.

Time to go jump on the bed me thinks. :p

The Antec P280 looks awesome but I'm going full tower I think. I wanna put a '69 mustang engine in with my computer, so I'll need the extra room.

(really I just wanted an excuse to use this smiley^ )
