Cataract Surgery

The vision group called today and have my surgery rescheduled. At first it was tentatively scheduled for December 31 and January 14th and we left it where I'd take the first available. Next Tuesday became available so naturally I jumped on it. They will do the left eye the 19th and the right December 9th. Once again I'm excited.
 
The cataract surgery was interesting. I was in and out in short order. They prepped the eye with a series of drops and three times each. It had a very numbing effect and then I was wheeled into surgery which couldn't have lasted ten minutes. Lots of visuals in the surgery eye which reminded me of my college days. :) The surgeon proclaimed I was a great patient and all went well. I spent maybe 15 minutes in recovery and then my wife drove me home.
I don't have any pain in the surgery eye but can't see diddly out of it yet. It's only been a few hours since surgery so I suspect my vision will improve... it has to. :)
 
I'm glad that I have a follow up exam this morning. My vision in the surgery EYE is terrible. I've read that my blurry vision is not out of the ordinary but it usually shows improvement by now. The optometrist will no doubt confirm this.
 
I'm back from my optometrist. All is well with the eye as I suspected. It is good to be assured. I have a considerable amount of swelling that's causing the blurry vison. He said the swelling was caused by an extensive cataract removal and would subside in a couple to three days. As the swelling subsides, my vision will improve.
 
Being as I have bugged you with my cataract surgery, I thought I should post an update. The swelling is subsiding as predicted. I no longer feel the pressure like a finger gently pressing on a closed eyelid. My vision has improved as well. It is not stellar but improving. I see some floaters and I catch a glimpse of the edge of the lens now and then. I think all is normal and I'm well on the way to being a happy camper. It is amazing how brilliant colors appear. White is so vivid that it almost seems over exposed. I was advised there would be a huge perception difference but witnessing it is incredible.
 
Though I was advised not to, I went riding today. Today is to be the last decent day for a while and I just had to get out and live up some of it. I came back from riding was happy that I hadn't harmed my eye. Within an hour of returning my vision improved dramatically and it now compares to being pre surgery quality but far brighter and vivid. I'm not sure what happened but I'm ecstatic. I should have went riding a couple of days ago :)

Probably shook the floaters out
 
I had my one week post op today. Everything is as it should be and my recover is norm. My left eye vision, which is vastly improved since my first day post op, still is not great. He said it is quite likely that I'll need correction when it's all said and done. No biggie.. I've worn glasses most all of my life and prefer bifocals vs locating my glasses to read something.

The surgery center was packed today. I understand that only emergency surgeries were performed early last week due to the blizzard. They are working all of the postponed surgeries in the best they can. It is a wonder that my cataract surgery wasn't postponed once again. I was in and out this morning but I waited almost two hours past my check in time to be prepped for surgery. I'm glad it's finally done. I will need glasses when my eyes have healed. I needed new glasses in the summer of 23 but scheduled the cataract surgeries instead. My heart attack put that on the back burner. Now, over a year and a half later, I need glasses. :)
 
Glad you joined the "club" Olbriar. Wish I had seen this thread before today.

I had both eyes done and no longer need six pairs of glasses stashed around the house, car, office, etc. The only glitch I ran into was a defective lens, so had to re-do one eye. But overall it's great. I do get a little star effect on bright lights at night, but that was a known trade-off. Now, if I can only get rid of those skull indentations from years of glasses :)

I still need glasses... but only for reading and computer work. Since they're fixed focal length lenses, I can see every leaf on every tree out there: but I can't focus up close and read (or work on my PC). Hence my need for glasses - but only in those contexts. Otherwise, it's great to be outdoors without them: and I LOVE the improved night vision!
 
The eye that was corrected last year is not perfect. I see a floater ever once in a while and turning my head and looking to the side I catch a weird artifact that I theorize is the edge of the replacement lens. I haven't tested the night driving vision but will once my right eye is healed.
I'm simply amazed at the clarity and intensity of colors. I should have have started this process years ago.

I've worn glasses for nearly sixty years. I've not worn my glasses since the first of December 23.
Something about the heart attack or blood pressure changed my vision so that my correction made me dizzy and was zero aid in seeing. My temple grooves are almost gone but I see no improvement with my nose. I always wore bifocal safety glass glasses with lots of correction that have made a nose that needs glasses to help hide the crazy effect that weight had. :)
 
I see my optometrist in an hour. I hope that she will clear me to drive. It's not that I need to go somewhere, it's just the thought of not being allowed that bothers me. :) The pain in my surgery eye has subsided but the vision so far is bad. It's pretty much the same as last time and I'm not concerned. The surgery has produced a problem that will have to be dealt with as soon as my eye has healed. I was using my glasses to see up close using my right eye that had surgery yesterday. Now I have no close vision. I need that corrected pronto or I need to grow some longer arms. :)

I have a great deal of swelling which is the same as post surgery last time. The reason, the extent of the cataract removal. The swelling is causing my vision to be blurry. I am released to drive and should see some improvement by my week out post op exam.

My mother's boyfriend had some drops to put into his eyes,so he could not drive today.
Mine will last forever and ever.
