Root [CDMA] A few root questions with Hboot 1.5

So I've had my 3D for quite some time now, coming from a rooted 4g I thought I was pretty familiar with rooting and everything. Then I see that there are two different methods for rooting the 3D, and apparently the method I have to use is the harder one.

So I just have a few questions that I haven't really found answers too, or would just like more clarification. Just exactly why is it that much harder to root with this version? What is the biggest difference between these two methods? Is it harder to flash roms? I guess my biggest concern is how much different is it pre/post rooting from my old 4G. I really want to follow through with this but it all seems a little intimidating at the moment. Thanks in advance for any help provided.

The problem lies in the fact that you cannot root HBOOT 1.50.000 with Revolution. Only the HTC website can root it so your chances of warranty replacement are shot. I really wanted to root mine after I saw how much better the newest Swype is...and then I found out that the only way that was happening is with the HTC unlocker and I said...ICS can't be that far off for the EVO 3D. I'm going to sit tight. Not that I am worried about phone warranty needs (although my light leakage is getting really bad so I may try and see what others think about that).

There are more differences than just a partial, or fully, voided warranty.

You will have a harder time flashing kernels or ROMs with custom kernels. HBOOT 1.5 does not activate S-OFF, and it causes problems with the /boot partition. If you flash a kernel through recovery, you will lose wifi and 4G. So you have to flash kernels/ROMs with custom kernels through fastboot recovery (basically, through your USB cable).

there is an app once your rooted called "flash image gui" and you can flash custom kernals and recoveries using the app and when you reboot you're good to go.

NOTE: you must install roms the conventional hboot 1.5 way. fastboot the boot.img and then flash through recovery.

Eh this sounds like tough business.. Just exactly how hard or inconvenient is it to go through all of it. Is it worth all the trouble?

What I don't understand is why a new root method can't be developed in order to root hboot 1.5+. The revolution method worked with 1.4. Is it just that hboot 1.5 is that much harder to try and crack or impossible or that its not worth it because HTC allowed a unlock officially. Because the htc way sucks and does not allow full root with s-off. I am just a bit confused and would love clarification.

Only you can determine if it's worth the trouble. Personally, I love my rooted/ROMed/custom kernel mix and if I had to get an Evo 3D with 1.50 (like a replacement), I wouldn't hesitate to do the HTC method. Read this guide and see if it's worth it to you:

Alternatively, there is a free way of doing it, but it's more involved.

Again, I don't think it's that hard, but it's just not as convenient as having the phone fully S-OFF. And I'd recommend paying the $1. It is much more noob friendly. But learning your way around the Windows command shell and the Android SDK hasn't hurt anyone

The Alpha Rev X / unrEVOked teams that developed Revolutionary have played around with making a full S-OFF for 1.5, but have never really committed to it. They said it was because the HTC method does work and the user is capable of flashing everything an S-OFF phone can, it's just not worth their effort.
