I liked the simple rooting that z4root did on the Hero. any idea if this will come to the EVO 3D?

Not in the near future. The root method used by Alpharev and teamwin are topsecret

So, you're looking at two options:

1) The Revolution method: It is fairly straight forward, but you do need to take your time, read the procedures, and do the steps exactly as stated. Luckily, the steps are easy and all the 'heavy lifting' is done by scripts or install programs.

2) The HTC method: Not currently available, will make it so they know you S-OFF'd (instead of you having some sort of plausible deniability with the Revolution method) and void (part of) your warranty. And may even be more complex, as you have to get the Android SDK up and running.

#1 is a clear winner, IMO. Nothing like Z4 will exist unless alpharev x and/or unrevoked develop it. It may not even be possible to make something as simple as that, either.

I was waiting for it to come to Mac as well, then just decided it was not gonna happen quickly..
I had my wife bring her office lappy home with Win 7 on it
The whole process takes 5 minutes, so, if you can get access to a windows laptop for 5 minutes, you are done...do all the reading before you start, and download the files you need before you start..

Can't stress this enough. Be prepared with the required software before you start and plan ahead.
